Christmas Nostalgia Thread

Im not sure if this was mentioned already but I could not find it. I remember when people used to wrap their front door in gold or silver paper and put a big bow on it like a present. I ALWAYS wanted my parents to do that but the never did. :guilty: You never see that anymore.
Oh, I loved that too! I wonder how hard it would be to do, I might try it this year.

We used to do that to our dorm room doors in college!:thumbsup2

Oh this IS a great thread! Thank you for starting it! :goodvibes

I just bought this....

because it reminds me so much of sitting on the couch, under an afghan my mother made, having hot chocolate with my sister while we are wearing our flannel pj's, watching the Charlie Brown Christmas special. Yes, it was so much better back in the days before cable, DVDs and Tivo. We had one chance to watch it and we never missed it!

And who didn't have these on their coffee table....

Ahh, good stuff. Such happy memories... :goodvibes

I remember getting crazy foam in my stocking and couldn't wait to take a bath and cover myself (and everything else close by) in crazy foam ;)

Merry Christmas everyone!!

My brother inherited our family's, so I bought one years ago for our table. I finally trashed it. THey do not make them like they used to!

:lmao:

hockeymom that's so appropriate for you, concidering all the 'kitteh torturing' you've done on the SP Hates Animals thread. LMAO!

Wow - JessicaR that one is from 1966! I love how it says "it grew some fur". :rotfl2:

a cat.. a cat... this is SOOO wrong! (that, or Santa knew what I would do in my 42 year old future! ack!)

ETA: another memory - loved my Gene Autry "Rudolph" Album - broke it by spinning it across the floor, but found it a couple years ago on cassette! I am also guilty of owning the Time Life collection - and have turned other people on to it!!!!
I still have my Gene Autry "Rudolph" album that I listened to when I was little and DH and I still play it in the morning (for the kids-of course ;) ) while we are getting ready for work and school!

My Mom still has those mice (eleves) and she puts them in our stockings. I love those!!

One thing I remember from my childhood Christmases, is never having a real dinner on Christmas Eve. Mom and Dad often did illuminaries w/ our neighbors and we had Christmas Eve service at church and Mom was always trying to finish up wrapping, etc., so dinner was whatever leftovers you found for yourself. I was a picky kid and wasn't big on leftovers, so I would always be hungry on Christmas Eve. Luckily, we would go to my Grandparents VERY early Christmas morning and my Grandma would make the BEST cheese and eggs just for me!! Now we do heavy appitizers and finger food on Christmas Eve and I always make sure the kids get enough to eat!! LOL!

I remember the Lifesaver Books, and that candle thing Honeibee posted. Of course, the Wishbook and the Christmas TV specials, Rudolph, Frosty, Charlie Brown, etc.

My dad has the Gene Autry "Rudolph" album on vinyl. Nothing says Christmas in our house like the old vinyl Christmas records. Now that is good Christmas music.

Back in the 60s, did anybody else's mom make candy wreaths out of individually wrapped pieces of Brach's Pic-a-Mix candy? It was a fad around here for a couple of years. My mom would wire the pieces of candy around a coat hanger, add a bow and a pair of sissors hanging from ribbon to cut the candy off with. All the good flavors would go first, and the horrible maple toffee chews would be left for last.

How about New Year's Eve with Guy Lombardo? My family never missed those final moments, no matter where we were. At least he ball still drops and that hasn't changed.

How about the Santa Mouse book? Anotone remember that?
Wreathes made from plastic baggies tied around caot hangers

We still read Santa Mouse Where Are You every year with our dd, and SM always leaves a gift in the tree with a yellow ribbon trailing out...

And yes, we had the wreaths too. Mine was made with white bags and I thought it was sooo beautiful!

And to pp who had the Oak Ridge Boys album, "Snow Is falling, look out the window with me"

We also had the Osmond double Christmas album and played it over and over and over. I still can't sing Pinecones and Hollyberries without doing their medley version of it.

Ah the good times!

E'very year when its December we're as happy as can be
for that is when we remember it is time to get a tree
we don't want a tree too tiny or too tall to fit the house
The tree we get has got to be just right for Santa Mouse!

My VERY favorite! I've read my copy to my own kids, and years worth of school kids. To this day we still put a yellow light on top of the tree.
I still can't get through "... and he called SANTA!" w/o tearing up.
