Christmas Nostalgia Thread

One of my favorite memories is the black and white cartoons that only lasted a minute or two -- Suzy Snowflake, Frosty the Snowman, and the one about the 3 elves -- Hardrock, Coco, and Joe. You never knew when they would be on and it was such a treat when they appeared. One of our local stations brought them back a few years ago. What a delight for me and my kids just didn't understand my fascination with them and trying to catch them from the beginning to tape them.

I bought a DVD copy of these from Ebay a few years back. I loved these as a kid and couldn't wait to show them to my kids. They freaked - the rough animation scared them. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: If you take a good hard look at Suzy Snowflake, she is scary looking!

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but we always had a color wheel light positioned on the ceramic tree such that it would change colors. I have that wheel still in it's original box. I also have a tree base that rotates a tree and plays a song.

Somehow I must of I must have missed your post!

I'm glad someone else remembered. Do tell where you got your 'manamahnah'!
My mother bought me a monster from CVS a few years ago from CVS for Valentine's Day that sings & dances 'manahmahnah'. She has home movies of my sis and me with our Kermit and Miss Piggy puppets we got on Christmas Day many moons ago. We were doing a 'skit' with them - it was 'manahmahnah'. :rotfl2:

I think it was at walgreens! I'm never in there, but was out and about trying to finish Christmas shopping one night and that ended up being the last thing open before I drove back to town! I would have passed it up had ds not hit every darn button on those things as we were in the aisle. (Yes, I have one of those kids.) I was trying to hide, but then heard that familiar Mahnahmahnah and I ended up digging through the pile till I found him!

PS We got the kermit puppets one year, too!

:thumbsup2

Now here is the sad part....They broadcasted it LIVE from Gracie Mansion (NYC Mayors residence) and in BLACK & WHITE!!!!!!:scared1: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Well, we didn't have a color TV, so I didn't know the difference! Too funny.

:lmao: I had no idea that was from Gracie Mansion!

Do any of you remember Uncle Floyd? I don't know if he was only on in Jersey. One year I got a "Mr Bones" marionette for Christmas- of course I made him dance manahmahnah, too. :rotfl2:

Too funny! I miss the muppets. I have them on my wishlist for DD this Christmas. I still have my original Kermie!

I have to check there this year. I was in CVS last week and was looking at the Rudolph's 'abominable snowman'. I wish they had a 'Heat Miser'. I always loved him best.

Mine would be the early Saturday a.m. trip to downtown Dayton to visit Rike's, view the animated window decorations (think Macy's store windows from the 50s/60s), Christmas shop a bit, sit on Santa's lap, and talk to Rudolph (another animatronic with a human responding to the kids questions/conversation) and the old fashioned candy counters where you could get a nickel's worth of this, a quarter's worth of that, etc. . .good times and great childhood memories. Downtown Dayton is not the same. . .in fact, most of Dayton is not the same. :sad2:

Count me as one who had Lifesaver Storybooks, Peppermint Patties, and the Bear Soap that grew fur when wet. . .oh and those GIGANTIC peppermint sticks!

They have an a Abominable Snowman who roars at Blockbuster. I didn't see Heat Miser though. :)

Anyone else remember this?

Enjoy!:cool1:

We just got a new copy of that last year. It was so funny to see after all this time!

My favorite Christmas album ever is A Columbia House Christmas. It was put out by Columbia House back in the 80s on record, and it has never been available since then. Dad always played it and the Time Life Treasury. We had to copy the album to tape for the car, then my uncle made a copy to cd from the tape, so I can still hear all the pops and stuff from the album when I listen to the cd.

Our cable company outs a yule log on one of the music channels in late December, and our Fox affiliate (I think) will show one on Christmas morning.

OH, I forgot about the giant peppermint stick! We'd get a few candy canes, then the giant stick!

My kids get the peppermint patties every year and last year they asked me why. I said, Santa thinks you need them. End of story.

If I could find the fuzzy wuzzy soap they'd still be getting that every year, too!

We used to go to a Santa Clause House that they set up on the front lawn of our county courthouse. My siblings and I would all wait for our turn to see Santa. I'd plan my list weeks in advance....and then at last it would be my turn! At which point I would totally refuse to go talk to Santa! My parents would urge and cajole to try to get me to go see him. But I would adamantly refuse! They thought I was shy, but I was actually terrified that he knew all the "bad things" that I had done since last Christmas and he was going to tell me that I was on the naughty list and getting...nada! So my sister would get my candy cane from him and off we would go.

I also remember our local movie theater having a free movie day for all the kids in town at Christmas time. I remember seeing Cinderella one year, sitting on a friend's lap because the theater was so packed! After the movie we would each get a HUGE candy cane! :thumbsup2 That was sooo much fun!

I remember Fuzzy too and went looking for him! Is he worth about $36.50?

Oh and I loved the Yule log too!:thumbsup2

I'm lovin' this thread!

The Norelco commercial is a favorite TV memory - and the Bing Crosby specials (I love the time Bowie sang "Little Drummer Boy" with him).

We had the cardboard fireplace and my mom decorated every inch with garland - criss crossing the ceiling and all around the window - and did the snow/wax stuff in the window.

I have a ton of my parents old Shiny Brites (whatever my sis and I didn't destroy) and I display them in bowls around the house. I bought some of the replica elves from Restoration Hardware because none of the original survived!

ETA: another memory - loved my Gene Autry "Rudolph" Album - broke it by spinning it across the floor, but found it a couple years ago on cassette! I am also guilty of owning the Time Life collection - and have turned other people on to it!!!!

one night our dad would take us shopping on "main Street" for my mom, we would visit the local Santa/Nativity scene with live animals and then go for sundaes!!!!!

This is a great thread - really makes me so excited for Christmas!

Our favorite holiday decoration as kids - my mom still puts this out every year:

Bubble%20Santa.jpg

Christmas morning I would gather with my brothers at around 3 am and wait anxiously until we could go downstairs. We weren't allowed to wake my parents until 6!

Having silver, green & red Hershey kisses with hot chocolate while decorating the tree. Every ornament had a story to be told, and certain ornaments had to be hung by certain people!

I am another one who loved the Sears wishbook - I used to pour over it at my grandparents' house for hours!

Every Christmas Eve we would hang our stockings and my dad would read "The Night Before Christmas" with illustrations by Grandma Moses out loud. We would always make fun of the "threw up the sash" part!

I love Christmas traditions. I so look forward to having my own kids and creating our own holiday memories for them to feel nostalgic about someday!

Im not sure if this was mentioned already but I could not find it. I remember when people used to wrap their front door in gold or silver paper and put a big bow on it like a present. I ALWAYS wanted my parents to do that but the never did. :guilty: You never see that anymore.
