How crazy is it?

My 7 year old son and I plan on being their New Years Eve:scared1:

Anyone have suggestions for New Years Eve/Day??

We love WDW on New Years. My biggest suggestion is to get your dinner and lunch reservations at 180 days out. Even if you usually don't do reservations, get them at this time of year. My next biggest thing is to make use of fast passes and get out in the middle of the day when the parks are really crowded. Relax by your DVC pool. A lot people are afraid they will get shut out of a park if they leave, so they stay. Don't worry about that happening unless you are staying off site or driving a car to the parks.

HBC

Will be staying Poly - Concierge :cool1:

Could be last trip there since just bought into DVC recently.

I love Christmas, but I hated New Year's Eve last year at Epcot. At nearly every country there was a band, and people spilled out into the walkway. At several countries it was so crowded that you couldn't even walk. It was so loud that you couldn't talk either. It was horribly crowded, but the noise was the worst part. So this year we are going Christmas week, but we are just going to spend time at the resort during the week of New Year's. We figured that we could golf and shop during the week of New Year's.:yay:

We LOVE NYE!!! We especially like it at Epcot. We have been there several times for NYE, including the millenium celebration, and it is wonderful!

I changed over to GF from Poly hoping to get a better view of fireworks from Concierge lounge if my 7 year old isn't up to getting squished at the park.

Any GF advice?

Don't have any advice but we are spending 1/2 our stay in the Sugar Loaf. We are very excited about this trip!

I am glad we are missing NYE then. We will be at AKL from 12/27 until 12/31 then are going on the Disney cruise (4day) on NYE! They can only fit so many people on the boat right?:wizard: I am a little concerned about the park crowds that week anyhow but with a little planning I hope it won't be unbearable. We went Thanksgiivng the millenium and it was horrible until we realized we can't show up in the park at 11 am LOL

A DISer mentioned making use of late hours at the parks - into the wee hours during Christmas/NYs weeks. By only going at night and for EMH.

So Q..

If the park closes due to crowds during these two weeks do they reopen for entrants late in the evening if many have left? Otherwise, I don't get the above statement. Or is it only Christmas Day and NYE that they often close for capacity?

I can't wait to go. First year. We have a BW view studio. So very excited.

OK, I haven't ever done this, my kids are too old now, but have read about it on the boards and have heard great things about it. There is a "Pirate Adventure" that leaves from the boat dock at the Grand Floridian that is supposed to be very cool. It last a couple of hours I think and there are cast members that are CPR certified onboard. The kids get peanut butter sandwiches and other snacks and they go in "search of treasure" around the lagoon. This is more of a thing to do during the day. Sounds very cool. If you go on "the dis" website and enter Pirate adventure in the search engine you will bring up the info if this sounds interesting to you. Make sure you check out the life size gingerbread house in the lobby of the GF, very cool! Also in the BWV there is a roller coaster made of chocolate and sugar and in the BCV a carossel complete with horses made of chocolate. Very fun to go and see, and then have an ice cream at Beaches and cream. Definitely check out the Osborne lights at Disney Studios, you will love them! Hope you have a wonderful trip!:santa:

We have done 2 NYE's at Disney - the first one we were in the parks and it was truly a madhouse, as was the Boardwalk area - that was the year that DVC had a party for members over at BW.... I'm not sure what year that was, come to think of it. We wound up not having a real dinner since the Biergarten (where we did have PS time) had put too many walk-up diners in the tables ... they couldn't even tell us when we MIGHT have gotten a table. We waited there an hour, then gave up and just got hot dogs over on the Boardwalk. ARgh

The next time we went for NYE, we joined the DVC party at SSR - much quieter, had games planned, music, and the fireworks from DD were wonderful. We were in the parks that day, and came back to SSR for the DVC party.

Anybody know if they still have a NYE's party??? That was nice - we did like that a lot.

Yeah they do. We did it this year and had a blast!

All I can say is its CRAZY!!!!! We did it last year. . We are staying at SSR this year over New years for 3 days and then taking a 7 night DCL cruise because the parks are just two nuts for us.

We have a reservation in a studio at BCV from 12/28-1/2. After reading how crowded it will be we are not sure if we still want to go. My kids are teenagers and love going on the rides. I wanted to go to have them see the Christmas decorations. I think the cost of airfare will make the decision for us.

We plan to take advantage of the evening EMH and fastpass as much as possible. Are your teenagers up for staying up late? There are some good threads about how to manage the crowds. Get there at rope drop in the am, and also go to the late EMH in the parks. Hope you give it a try. This will be our first time between Christmas and NYears. We always went the first two weeks of December when it wasn't crowded, and other off season times. This will all be new for us too. Good luck whatever you decide.:)

Last week we booked our airfare and our stays at Holiday Inn for weekends before and after our stay at BCV. Just have to reserve a rental car and we are all ready. We always make use of EMH so figure why not celebrate NYE at Epcot. :cool1:

One other tip is that MK will do the NYE fireworks on the 30th too. That may be a little less crowded, but still packed. We like DHS on NYE. They only do fireworks NYE and July 4th.

Just found this thread. We were at MK last year for New Year's Eve, and it was one of the best nights we had at a park. It was very crowded and rainy, but everyone was in a great mood. Our teenager loved it. They had djs later in the evening, including after the fireworks. They handed out hats and noisemakers to everyone--lots of fun. My only suggestion is do not even try to leave right after the fireworks. Plan on staying as late as you can and sleep in the next day. We waited about an hour after the fireworks and Main Street was still wall to wall people. If we do it again we will stay and hang out in front of the Castle or in Tomorrowland with the DJs as long as possible.

Hope you have a great time!

When we got back to our room at BCV on NYE, the room kitty-corner to our's had put all their wet clothes over the railing to dry. I loved the woman's bright orange bra, and the guy's tiny black jocks!:lmao: I spent the rest of my time trying to see the people who owned that underwear, but never did! It was the best part of NYE!

We are also there from 12/27-1/03 can't wait we know it will be packed but we figure to take our time and maybe even hit some of the lesser attractions that alot of people skip. we do have some dining reservations but plan to eat some other meals @ the unit when we go for a break.
