Christmas Mass

I know they no longer do Mass on Sundays at WDW but I remember reading that last year they had a Christmas Day Mass at the Contemporary.

Does anyone know if they are doing that this year?

Thanks

I think I saw a notice in the ushers room at the MQotU Shrine asking for help for Mass at the Contemporary ballroom on Christmas day. I'll try to remember to double check and post an update next time I am at the Shrine.

I was at the Contemporary last year (2004) and don't remember anything about a Mass on property. When I asked (prior to arrival) they mentioned the church over by Vista Way (Mary Queen of the Universe Shrine or something like that). I am sure I would have noticed it in the announcements. Hope they do something this year. That would be great. We intended to go to midnight mass last year, but never made it.

From what I have read, there was at least one Catholic Mass at the Contemporary Resort last Christmas and also this past Easter.

I stayed at the Contemporary last year and don't remember a Christmas Mass being scheduled. I remember mention of Mary, Queen of the Universe Shrine. I just checked out their website and it appears that the last Mass was held in 2002 on the Disney property. The Shrine is nearby (those of us that shop at the Premiere Outlet can't miss it!) and it looks lovely. I recall reading a thread about the parrish and that many recommend attending Mass there.

I emailed All Ears to see if they had heard anything and Deb replied that as of yesterday, no word. She thinks there was a Mass at the Contemporary for Easter this year, but notice was published very late.
As I mentioned, I was at the Contemporary for Christmas last year and inquired prior to our visit - and was told there would be none. And, I saw nothing about it in our "daily Holiday updates" that was provided at check in, which included things like caroling, Santa appearance, etc.
Maybe this year.

Okay, I checked at the Shrine on Thursday and they are planning to celebrate Christmas Mass at WDW at both 8:00am and 10:15am at the Contemporary Ballroom. There will also be a regular Mass schedule at the Shrine itself, as well as Midnight Mass at the Shrine featuring the shrine choir and orchestra.

I went to mass at the Shrine when I was at Disney in August. It was absolutely beautiful and HUGE! It was about a 15 minute drive from the Wilderness Lodge. It was very easy to find. Free donuts and coffee afterward (donations appreciated, though not necessary). The people who volunteer there love to talk to all of the out-of-towners. They make everyone feel welcome! The priest that was there that day said they handle 40,000 people over 10 masses on Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday...and I believe it! There was probably about 1,000 people there when I attended, and it seemed almost empty. Definately worth the trip if they don't offer mass at the Contemporary.

Thank-you for the info. I wanted to bump this so others would also know. :sunny:

Attended Mass in the ballroom of the CR 8:15am Christmas Day 2003. It was sponsored by the Shrine.

Just went to the Shrie site. They stopped regular Sunday Masses at Disney World in 2002 not Christmas Masses.

I assume the Midnight Mass is only at the Shrine?

Yes, sorry if that wasn't clear. Midnight Mass will be at the Shrine itself in addition to their regular Mass schedule on Christmas day. If you plan to attend the Midnight Mass at the shrine, please be aware that it is very popular and seats are filled by about 11:30pm.
