Has anyone ever told friends NOT to buy gifts for yourself or your kids? I know it seems silly but gift giiving has gotten a bit out of hand for us and I would like to find a nice way to say," Please don't get us anything." I am so blessed to have many close friends and we always bought gifts for each other, now that we have families we also buy for the kids. My kids have WAY more than they need and do not need to get 6 -7 extra gifts. I don't want to hurt anyones feelings, and it is not about the money, it just doesn't feel right. Anyone else in this situation? What did you do? Thanks! :teeth:

We do a book exchange with our friends! That way, it keeps the cost down, and no more unneeded toys!

My DH's Dad and Step-Mom hinted two years in a row for the families not to get them anything, but rather to donate $$$ to charity so last Christmas that is what we did. We sent the money we would have spent on them to a Christian radio station they listen to and they were very happy about that.

I don't see anything wrong in requesting to stop exchanging gifts with friends, or even family. Maybe pool your money and donate it to a charity.
