Christmas Gifts for Teens

Since we are talking food gifts, my niece is 13 going to be 14 on Christmas (the pain). She is really into food shows and I have been browsing cookbooks on Amazon..... and would like another idea besides just a cookbook. She does pretty basic cooking now, but I would like to find her a gadget that may inspire her. I like the idea of a spirilizer, but her mom may have one. Any thoughts?

This might go over like a lead balloon, but how about a good-quality chefs knife? That's probably the most important tool in any kitchen.

I have a nephew that is into cooking, and he likes to get cooking/food magazines a lot, how about a subscription to one of those?

Or how about one of those sandwich makers? It would be easy enough for a young teenager, while still allowing them to try out some of their creativity. (I personally wouldn't go with the cake pop maker as suggested by a PP - I found them to be an absolute pain to use. It's SOOOO much easier to just make cupcakes LOL)

I would have gotten the salt thing too! I agree about the cake pop thing, awhile back, there was a thread about how much fun they were so I had to get one. I ended up taking it to goodwill. Speaking of kitchen-aid, I got a small chopper that they had on QVC the other night and its really nice. One thing I got on Amazon was odd sized measuring cups. Not only the normal sizes, but also like 2 cups and 2/3 cup. Sizes that come in handy when you are baking. They also had measuring spoons too.

I just ordered a rice maker and warmer. My dd loves rice and this is something easy to use and many times of day she wants rice. I invested in a high end one .

So far I have purchase:

Any with ideas for 11 year olds? Also, any ideas on where I can find PJ onsies for teens at a reasonable price?

Currently have 2 10 off 10 Penny's coupons came in mail today- maybe some cheap clothes for each girl

Maybe a cake decorating kit and a class at Michael's? My daughter was really into the cupcake wars show (don't even know if that is still on). Or maybe a Disney apron?

I have a son and the only thing on his list was video games. (Sigh.....) Anyway, Target has their Buy 2, Get 1 Free sale this week, in case anyone is interested.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a good light up make up mirror? My niece has this on her list so would like to stay in the $30 or less range.

Unfortunately the good ones are pricey. Not that I'm saying don't get a $30 one, just realize what you are and aren't getting. Many are kind of weak on the light part - that's the biggest complaint about all of them. Also, many will be battery operated only - which I find odd, but it is what it is. Decide if that's what you want or not, and make sure to check descriptions to see if it has an actual cord if that's what you want.

With your budget, I would actually look to go a bit smaller on the mirror size - that way the light will be more effective.

Sorry I don't have a specific mirror recommendation, I've gotten DD a couple, and while they have been OK, none have been great to the point of recommending them over any others. If I ever get her another, I'm just going to spend the bucks to get a better one.

For all of you other 50-somethings out there, remember that round Conair lighted makeup mirror that was so popular in our day? I wish they'd make a throwback version of that!! (But they'd probably mess it up by making it battery powered and changing to LED bulbs...)

I agree. Unfortunately after trying a few we spent the money on a Simple Human. Awesome mirror but really expensive!

What's a good cologne for teenage boys? My son up till now has used the Axe products. Yuck. You can smell him coming a mile away. What is popular with the younger teenage boys these days?

My ds has a couple from American Eagle, I think 1977 is one of them. I got him a set of 2 (or 3) small ones so he could try them and pick he really likes. He doesn't have a favorite so I'm hoping they have the same or similar set this year.

Perfect! Thank you both for the suggestion.

I saw some onesies on Kohl's last night.

DD18 is asking for things for her dorm. We have a bunch of matching items picked out on Bed Bath & Beyond. I'll put it on her list for DH's side but what she doesn't get I'll probably end up buying because it looks so cool. She has been fascinated by the sequin pillows at the furniture store that flip over and change color when you run your finger over them. I'd looked but only found the $50 versions. Was excited last night to see that BB&B has some for $20 with good reviews. I'm going to get her the gold one. She's going with a aqua/gray scheme but the walls will be beige so we thought some gold accents would warm it up.

If you have access to Costco, they sell a decent one for around $20-$30. I don't remember the brand off hand, but it often has a manufacturer coupon.

As for DD, I'm stuck. Her bday is this month and she's been kind of meh when we suggest anything. She likes the idea of Lootcrate or Lootwear. This month's theme is Magicial (Fantastic Beasts/Dr. Strange) so I might do a one month trial. So far I've purchased a Nightmare Before Christmas Dooney backpack at the outlet, grandma is getting her a peeramid reading pillow, and I found the Inside/Out infinity figures before they were discontinued. Also ordered her the illustrated Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets from Amazon.uk. Oh, and a funko pop Hermione Granger keychain and a music note thumbdrive.

She has mentioned repainting her room a few times. DH is not thrilled about the idea, but it would be a good project for Thanksgiving break and we would make cleaning up the clutter and downsizing stuff she's outgrown part of the deal. I know she'd love Amazon gift cards so she can order a dozen books, but family wants ideas for physical gifts.
