Christmas gift ideas for DD17...

they are not permitted to take the furniture apart, hammer anything, etc
In that tiny space tools would just be junk. Trust me - DH sold tools and we have more than you can imagine- each kid told us to take them home after DH set things up

Duct tape on the other hand ...

Definitely depends on the school! DS' school also bans duct tape :confused3

Definitely - as a few others have mentioned - Rain Boots!

DD wouldn't have been caught dead or alive with Vera Bradley in high school. She LOVES it in college. Last year for Christmas - we got her one of the duffel bags (the bigger one IIRC). It is perfect for a quick trip anywhere! She also has several purses - different ones for different purposes.

DD LOVED having a small tool kit with her on campus. And - she LOVED having an electric tea kettle.

Command strips - as someone else mentioned are a great stocking stuffer too!

Again, with the know your dorm before buying. I bought some of these for oldest DS on the recommendation of friend and found that for his dorm they are useless. The walls of the dorm are painted cinder block. Because they aren't smooth the command strips don't stick.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. I love the personalized towel idea. She plans on going to an SEC school. Not sure which one yet, waiting to see if she gets a chance at an athletic scholarship or if she can be a walk-on. I also like the rain boots. Of course she would need to pick those out herself. Such an exciting time!! I did buy a cute tape dispenser and was thinking of filling her stocking with cute desk supplies too. She has already told me not to buy much for Christmas for her, because she wants to get stuff after she finds out where she is going to attend. But, I can't help myself!;)

yes on the hunter boots! They walk a lot on campuses even if it is myddy

Another yes on the Hunter rain boots. My daughter in college also wears her LL Bean boots (duck boots) a lot in the winter. A good rain coat and a small umbrella are also necessary. I bought my daughter a North Face triclimate jacket and she loves having the outer rain jacket for rainy days and the inner jacket for warmth on cold days. A monogrammed small umbrella would make a nice stocking stuffer.

I agree with the others to wait on stuff for the dorm room until you know what dorm room she will be staying in.
