This question has two parts. 1.) Do you buy or give something to your child's teacher? 2.) What gift is appropriate?

There are some details about our situation that might help with your answer. First, she is a nineteen year old girl that comes to our house once a week and gives my son some very basic lessons. She is not preparing him for competitions or anything like that. She has two recitals a year at her parents home (one is coming up in December, I think, but no date yet???:confused3). This is very inexpensive, low-key kind of situation. She has twelve students and charges each $70 per month for thirty minutes a week.

Thank you!

I'd be interested in the answer to this question as well. My DS7 started piano lessons through a Church fine arts program ($85 a month for 30 minute weekly lessons with 1 recital per semester). This question didn't occur to me until I read this post!

My DD is going to make her piano teacher an ornament (which is what she does for all her teachers- school, dance, piano...)

Since you are paying for your services, I would give something like a musical ornament - they have pianos (I saw them at the music store) or I would give $10 to $15 cash.

DD's flute teacher just bought a new house, so we are giving her a Christmas hand towel, B&BW Christmas hand soap, and a flute ornament all tied up with a ribbon.

gift card put in a Christmas card made by your DS.

We give ours a musical ornament that is tied to a banana bread or food of some type.
