I'm at a loss as to what to get my DS for Christmas/birthday which are close together - what are the big toys this year for them and any deals out there? thanks!

Lea[Frog Tag Jr is awsome. It is a book reader and very easy for little hands to use.

My little guys B-day is in January so we have this problrm too. This year he will be 3 and he's getting a drum set (dad plays the drums and he loves drums!) I figure that will be big enough for Christmas and B-day from us.

Last year he got a little car (not powered) from his grandparents and a kitchen set that he loves from the other grandparents. These were fro Christmas. For his B-day he mostly got clothes.

Matchbox Rocky the Robot Truck!!

We saw this in Toys R Us Monday and my 2 year old loved it! He's also getting the Step2 50's diner because he loves to pretend he's cooking, but DH will have a fit if I get him a kitchen set!!

Those will be his big items. There are also a lot of Toy Story toys out there right now.

Does your son have a Tonka truck? Every little boy needs one! We have at least for - 1 regular, 1 with flames and dual wheels, and 2 mighty tonka trucks. They have always been (and still are) favorites for my boys (2 & 6).

Have you looked into Geo Trax? They are great too and now they have sets with the CARS characters.

Oh, my son got the Radio Flyer Sport Coupe (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10985768) for his second birthday and it a big hit with all the kids. He loves to ride in it or lower the handle and push it around himself. I can't keep him out of that.

The Step 2 Extreme Roller coaster is really cool too and gets a lot of use at my house. He may be a little small for it, but my youngest has been riding it since he was 22 months old and loves it. The car sits very low to the ground and is almost impossible to tip over.

I think we have just about every boy toy imaginable, but these are definitely his favorites! HTH!

I'm getting my 18 month old DS a kitchen. I think I'm going to go with one from Ikea just 'cause it's pretty compact. I can't find the link but there's one on Walmart.com that you get free play food with.

Last year DS got (between us and the grandparents) a power wheels type tractor, a tricycle, and a ride on spring horse from radio flyer. He also got a couple of cars/trucks and the Handy Manny toolbox with all the tools (the one that sings the song)

I say Geo Trax. It is something that you can start small (or big) and build upon. DS has had his since he was 2 and I'm looking to add some of the Pixar Cars that are out this year to his collection. Initially I had to do all the building and he would play with them, and now for more elaborate builds I still do them, but he tries to make his own tracks now and likes to help me (DS will be 4 in Dec).

They are great too, because they are sturdy enough just to be set up on the carpet, no need for a train table or wood floor. Also, DS could enjoy them at 2 and continues to enjoy them now and forsee him enjoying the set into the future.
