Christmas Eve/Christmas Day menus

I'm not sure on Christmas breakfast this year. Typically, I do overnight french toast--similar to the recipe soccerdad linked. I would actually LOVE to do some kind of all-inclusive casserole, just because it would be so easy to pop in the oven, and then have everyone eat a nice breakfast. But, of my four kids, one doesn't like casseroles or cheese. Another is a vegetarian. All four of them hate potatoes (?!?). Buncha spoiled brats, if you ask me, but Christmas morning is not the time or place for that fight.

I've had a request for cinnamon rolls this year. Specifically, Rhodes thaw and bake cinnamon rolls--my kids go nuts for their dinner rolls, and we used to love their cinnamon rolls, too. Problem is, I haven't been able to find them, down here in North Carolina. I've been on a quest. Their website says they're in Walmart Supercenter (not ours), Harris-Teeter (not ours), and Lowes (going this morning). If I truly can't find them, I'll probably try Sister Schubert's instead. Or just go with the overnight french toast casserole.

I realize that Lowes must a grocery store where you live, but I did a double take imagining cinnamon rolls next to the hammers and paint, lol. :rotfl:

When I was little we used to go to my grandparents' apartment for Christmas Eve. We would exchange presents and they would serve a deli tray. We would make our own sandwiches.

I don't think my family really has a tradition for Christmas. Christmas Eve we usually have to be at church by 6, even though service starts at 7, because at least one of us is somehow involved in the service and has to practice with the bell choir or voice choir or help organize candles, etc. We end up eating after church. I would like to get fondue this year.

For the past few years on Christmas Day, we've been setting up a buffet at our house for guests. Sometimes it's lunch, sometimes it's breakfast. Sometimes both.

Well... I need new plans for Christmas Eve now. I was just informed yesterday that we will not all be getting together that night. Now I need food ideas! For one person and without many leftovers as I won't have much of a chance to eat them.

For Christmas eve, it is always low key at out house, just immediate family. I do cheese/crackers/pepperoni, relish tray with olives, pickles, radishes, pick and peel shrimp, some chips and dip and usually a big pot of meatballs/sausage with rolls. This year on Christmas day we are hosting. I am unsure about doing a sit down as we have everyone saying they are coming at a different time. So I am going to do a turkey and honey ham but sliced for sandwiches. I will have different rolls, and make potato salad, pasta salad and coleslaw as the sides. I will also put out the leftover shrimp and meatballs/sausage and snacks. Figured this was the easiest way to feed everyone with everyone not sure what time they can stop by. I don't think there will be many people so I am fine with the leftovers until New Years lol when of course the diet starts! Hope you all have a wonderful holiday!

This all sounds wonderful. I love your sandwich idea. Would love that Christmas Day. We are having an open house. I always hear about cheese, crackers and pepperoni, but never think to put it out. Do you sleep ce your own pepperoni or buy it presliced like for pizza?

This is an odd year so don't know how it's going to work out. Previously on Christmas Eve my oldest sister threw a birthday party-app/drinks for her husband's birthday. After she passed, my 2nd DD makes fudge and we'd go around delivering it. This year 2nd DD has a steady bf so don't know their plans.

Christmas Day is going to be way different as my oldest son and DIL will be in DL from the 23rd-26th. We are doing presents this Thursday for the grandkids before they go. We normally go to their house on Christmas so this year, we are going to 2nd DD and her bf's house. My 2nd dd, my 2nd ds, my sister and her son's family and hopefully my oldest dd is getting a ride through paratransit to come for 4 hours. We will open sister's grandkids presents and our presents there. We are having tacos. We decided a few years ago that having a second turkey dinner within a month was getting a little tiring with the prep. A couple people usually fry up hamburger and then combine in a crockpot with seasoning and others bring the 'fixins'. I know I'm bringing one lb of hamburger cooked, packets of seasoning, 1 red and 1 green salsa, Spanish rice and cookies. My daughter hasn't sent out a sign up list yet. We all bring our own drinks.

Christmas eve I plan on having seafood gumbo at our house. Takes all day to cook, but in the end, there's no "last minute" stuff, and everyone loves it.

Christmas morning-- We always go to my parents'. They serve bagels with lox and cream cheese, and fruit salad every year. The fruit salad is really good because every type of fruit is in a separate bowl, and we mix up our own. Plus, freshly toasted coconut for on top, which is way better than it sounds.

Christmas dinner--waffling between staying for dinner (ham, roast, whatever they have), or going out to Chinese.

We celebrate the holidays at my house, so I'm cooking.

Christmas Eve dinner is always seafood, seafood, and seafood. It's my family's tradition and DH doesn't complain. It's easy to prepare after we go to the Children's Mass on Christmas Eve. I'm not sure what I'm serving yet. I'll go to the seafood market tomorrow week and talk to them to see what they're expecting to come in on Saturday. Sometimes, they have a captain who will go out on Christmas Eve morning and bring in fresh catch. Sometimes, we get lobster flown in from the Cape thanks to the seafood market. I'll make some simple sides, usually a mushroom dish and a green salad.

Christmas morning I'll make a quiche with cheese, mushrooms, and sausage to go with the mimosas.

Christmas dinner will either be a beef tenderloin or a standing rib roast. I have to go and speak with the butcher. I serve it with rolls, rice and gravy, whatever veggies strike my fancy when I'm at the green grocer's, and sometimes I relent and make DH mashed potatoes. I'll probably roast corn on the cob as DH loves it.

Christmas Eve is fondue (oil) with steak and cheese. Sides are green bean casserole, smoked oysters, chips and dip, etc. it's kind of weird but a longstanding tradition!
We have fondue (oil) with filet, lobster, shrimp, chicken, crab, scallops, and mushrooms and a green salad on New Year's Eve!

Christmas Eve is seafood, seafood and more seafood. ... If it's me I'll probably make beef tenderloin.
Stop copying me! :rotfl2:Obviously, you have excellent taste! See above. We're having the same, although I don't know if I'm making beef tenderloin or a standing rib roast this year. DH wants tenderloin.

If you call your casserole a strata will that work? They're easy enough (and still delicious) vegetarian as a quiche or friata would be. Love make ahead and throw in the oven when I'm having overnight guests, so I'm a big proponent.

I have a very small group for Christmas Eve. We are four adults and my ten year old niece. I am having Honey Baked Ham, breaded chicken breasts, cheesy potatoes, glazed carrots, rolls and cinnamon apples. We will have chocolate eclairs, Christmas cookies and maybe some ice cream for dessert. I will have a couple of appetizers when they arrive and cocktails, of course. I don't entertain a lot these days. I was widowed nine years ago and I have kind of lost my mojo. I am trying to keep it simple so I don't stress.

We don't have a tradition for Christmas Eve so every year it's different. It's usually just the two of us so it could be anything.

This year DD and her DH are going out of town on Christmas so they will be with us for Christmas Eve and Christmas morning. So we are doing our normal Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve this year:

Rib roast, yorkshire pudding plus whatever sides we decide on.

Christmas morning will be some kind of baked cheesy eggy goodness and either a french toast casserole or waffles.

And after reading this list Christmas dinner for DH and I will either be chicken enchiladas or out for chinese!

I'm surprised to see so many people who eat out on CE and CD. Up until a few years ago it would be next to impossible to find anything open here except maybe Chinese. Even diners that are 24/7 and Timmy's were closed. Now there are a few more places open like I think Timmy's and McDonald's are but very few sit down restaurants besides a handful located in hotels.

OMG YOU GUYS - I have SUCH A BETTER recipe for pineapple stuffing! I have to say that has been the one recipe that has been the biggest hit with people who have never had it before. I usually make it at Easter with ham. It's so darn good! Lots of butter, sugar and eggs so its a once a year treat :)

Can you share? I have never heard of this and I am intrigued

I do one that sound familiar
6 slices of white bread cubed
1 20oz. Can Crushed pineapple drained
1 cup sugar
4 eggs
1/2 cup butter ( softened )

Cream sugar and butter together in a bowl
Mix in eggs 1 at a time
Add in pineapple and bread. Mix and put in to a greased casserole dish. Baked at 350 for 60 minutes.
Can be done ahead then reheated

Do a search for pineapple bread pudding/stuffing as there are different versions. Seen them with raisins, vanilla, half regular sugar/ half brown sugar etc.

We have it any time we have a big gathering with a ham. Also easy to double up if needed.

Thank you. I plan to make one with my ham on Monday

You're welcome. I got this from Allreceipes.com . They said 5 slices of bread but I always add 1 more . I helped make it for my Mom for years and she always used 6 slices. No idea were she got the receipe.

We've adopted my husband's traditional Christmas Eve menu, posole and green chile turkey enchiladas! My family had turkey on Christmas Day, but we like a beef tenderloin and scallop potatoes (and a nice Napa Cabernet). But always, always, my Mom's silk chocolate meringue pie. Oh, and waffles, bacon, and maple syrup for Christmas breakfast, gluten free.

It's going to be a bit strange for us this year.

Christmas Eve, we're having chicken casserole, green beans, and mashed potatoes.
Christmas Day brunch at mother in laws.
Christmas Day Dinner (we'll have to eat around 7 due to everyone's schedule) will be spiral ham, blackened carrot salad, sweet potatoes, and Brussels sprouts.
