Christmas Disappointment

DH and I decided to give DS16 (almost17) a puter for Christmas. So, I found one that DsS26 (the puter geek) approved of, and ordered. Got confirmation on Weds that it would be here in 5-7 business days. That puts delivery next week, like Tuesday...

It arrived on Saturday. I was at work, DH was sleeping, and guess who had to sign for the box...can you guess...Yup, DS16. AND all the specs and even a COLOR PIC are on the box!

OK, so the kid is really excited, but

oh debbie what a disappointment. i'm so sorry. i just hate when surprises are ruined.
i had a ton of stuff in my trunk from friday afternoon when i went out shopping and we were taking the 4x4 swap to the post office and then to swim w/ ds and dh opened my trunk right in front of him. UUUUGGGHHHH!!!
all he saw was the storm trooper set i bought and he was MOMMY LOOK! it's the storm trooper set i wanted!!!!!!!!
OMG are ya kiddin me??!! i looked at dh like did i not ask you to take these out of my trunk last night??????
where is Nancy's frequent flyer miles- 'cause i need to borrow some!
so i told ds that it was a gift i picked up for him to bring to school for the needy children. and he was ok with it. i think he bought it.
but really i feel the same way deb.

Looks like some needy kid will be getting a storm trooper set this year

yea really. what's up with UPS. don't they know it was a gift for your ds!!!!

i bought ds a darth vader really cool ceramic candy dish head that he can put on his shelf that he will just love because i have a mickey one and he always talks about mine, so i was thrilled that he did not see that! so that's the upside for me.

I feel your pain... has happened in years past....

What is it with the delivery guys... I mean it's the holiday.... I know! I know! Before someone slams on me..how are they gonna know it's a gift....but still.. you can't help but be upset..

I have frequent flyer miles to use...so feel free... DH is too sick to use them.. we aren't even going to FIL's for the family gathering.....but we can't afford to get everyone sick...

So sorry again that it happened..

i'm on my way there right now to pick up my prescription. i'm thinking about getting ds a clone trooper too so he can have bookends for his shelf.

That's so frustrating! We try so hard to make things a surprise and "perfect" for Christmas that it's very aggravating when it doesn't live up to our expectations. DS saw one of his presents about a month ago (a Play-Doh set, nothing like a computer!) and I had to say it was for my niece. Well, being the neurotic kid that he is, he keeps asking me where I put Julia's present, that he wants to look at it. Looks like she'll be getting the Play-Doh Ice Cream Shop, too, this year!

Holly, I second the "Where did you find a Darth Vader candy dish?!". I don't know who would like that more, DH or DS!





Oops, Holly, we posted at the same time. I'll have to make a trip to Target! (what a sacrifice for me!)

I have an idea...since it wasn't DS's fault that he discovered his present, maybe you can have a little fun with the opening. My parents used to send me on scavenger hunts to get my big presents. Don't wrap the computer and put it under the tree. Wrap a clue in a tiny box, open all the other presents. DS will notice the missing present, but claim innocence. Send him everywhere, clue hunting, do you have a neighbor? Make him solve little puzzles. You could alter an actual puzzle with the next clue on it, etc. He may know what awaits him at the end, but he wouldn't expect the process.
