Christmas Dinner.....

Turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, butter beans, collards, creamed corn, field peas, deviled eggs, tipsy pecan cake, pecan pie, buttermilk pie and probably another type of cake.

Shannon, Tommy makes a mean fried turkey. You can marinate it in undiluted apple juice for atleast 12 hours before frying. The skin will turn black but the meat will not and will not taste burned. Guaranteed to have no leftovers. In fact, we never even had any make it to the table! :o :teeth:

It just got even better! My Mom wants to buy the roast and she's gonna make a homemade cheesecake with a raspberry topping for dessert. Life is good.:)

I'm goin' to Antnee's house too !! That sounds like a traditional Italian Christmas meal if I ever heard one.

I didn't know anyone else made Baccala.

Well DH and I are both working a late shift, so he has been invited to a work colleague's home for Turkey etc. For me it will be a buffet with everyone bringing something in. Our Christmas day will most likely be the 26th which here in England is a public/bank holiday and we will be having roast turkey etc as tradition it always is turkey at Christmas!!!
Claire :)

Going to FL for Christmas, we will be driving straight through Christmas eve to get there about 5am or so on Christmas morning. Dinner will probably be a stop on the road somewhere. If we could have left sooner, it would be a big pot luck at SO's grandmother's house!! ****sigh****:( And then on Christmas day we go to a buffet at a Hiton on the Beach (or is it a doubletree? guess it doesn't really matter...). I don't really enjoy that very much, would rather have a homemade Thanksgiving type dinner, but that is what SO's family likes to do.....

i always do a standing rib roast. FIL likes creamed onions, so I make those for him, garlic mashed potatoes, green beans sauteed in walnut oil, lots of Christmas cookies, and probably my Triple Chocolate Cake:)

"Traditionally" we have a Christmas late morning brunch...a special egg dish with either a spiral ham or steaks on the grill, along with fresh fruits, special sweet breads and cakes. etc. Then later in the afternoon we just start grazing on fancy appetizers....shrimp cocktail, salmon, baked brie, meatballs, a veggie plate, meats and cheeses, homemade Christmas cookies and any other thing that strikes my fancy over the next week. Everything is put out buffet style and everyone just helps themselves. Makes for a much more relaxed day.

My dad wants ham so I think we will have ham. As for the rest of it, I am not sure. I think we are all going to make a little something (me making my "famous" mashed potatos and probably home made bread) and see what we get in the end :)

LOL! Missy that is so funny. I was talking to my mom on the phone about an hour ago and she mentioned doing the same thing.:teeth: However, she was hoping my SO would be there to fry the bird for us, but he's supposed to work. I told her I'd fry it for us. She said she might prefer baking her turkey like she normally does.;) We'll see.:teeth:

Thanks for the tip.:)

Hey Shannon, Can I have your recipe for hashbrown casserole? I love that stuff and I'm looking for a good recipe

Christmas Eve at my moms we have:

Her homemade pierogies (saurkraut and patato/cheese)
Ham
rolls
broccoli/onion casserole
Dads homemade kielbasa
coleslaw
And usually a bunch of deserts.

I'm cooking and I'm on Weightwatchers program so this
will be a healthy dinner-mashed potatoes with vegetable
broth instead of milk and butter-turkey instead of ham or
roast beef-fresh baked high fiber breads with healthy
spreads-butternut squash soup(it's amazing and lowfat)-
lots of fresh veggies cut into cute shapes-
blueberry and peach cobbler from a heart healthy cookbook-
peas AND the traditional Christmas cut outs! with nuts
and a few Christmas chocolates. I found these great
meringues at Trader Joes-peppermint with chocalate chips-
no fat and delicious. The whole family comes to our house
on Christmas Day.

We will be on the road to the World...so Christmas dinner will be out of the cooler in the van!!! But the cooler is alllll decorated for Christmas!!!:p

We always do our big meal on Christmas Eve at my Granny's house. Its an Italian tradition to have the "Feast of the Seven Fishes", where you have at least 7 different kinds of fish served. We always cheat and have a plate of lasagna as wel, some ziti, that sort of thing. My grandmother makes squid (blah! some people love it though) and my contribution is Coquilles St. Jacques, a mix of scallops, shrimp and crab. Someone else usually brings crab cakes or Alaskan crab legs, and red snapper seems to be a popular item to bring. When I was a kid it was just seven kids of fish - just 7 slabs of fish laying there with the head on! We've kind of gotten away from that tradition, thank goodness.

On Christmas day, we usually eat very light. When I was a kid it used to be a leg of lamb (another Italian tradition) but since I would rather eat dirt than lamb, I usually make a salad and some sort of Italian dish - or use what is left over from the night before.

I need to get busy and plan this meals! My oh my how the time has been flying this month. Being away to DIS CON made it fly even faster. :)

In previous years, I have done Beef Wellington, Duck in cherry sauce, and orange glazed cornish game hens. I love to cook! :p

I quit eating sugar and flour this year - so I think I will do a Prime Rib using a special recipe I have. Serve it up with garlic roasted baby potatoes, sauteed vegetables, and for dessert my famous low carb cheesecake (served with sweetened cherries for those who are still eating sugar!). YUM. :)

This is going to be a very different Christmas for me. I will be spending my last Christmas Eve with my family here in Wisconsin and we will have our tradiontal stuffed tenderloin and shrimp scampi. twice baked potatoes, mushrooms, green beans, rolls and creme brullee.
The next morning I fly to what will be my new home in Puerto Rico and spending it with my soon to be new family. We will be having the traditional Puerto Rican Christmas food. Roast Pork, Pasteles, Plantains, Coquito, Mofongo, Arroz con Gandules, and Flan. It will be different but I can't wait, I love all of them.

I have Christmas Eve at my house and it will consist of:

21 people

Baked Stuff shrimp (with lobster stuffing)
Shrimp Cocktail
Lobster salad finger sandwiches
Lasagna
Eggplant parmagiana
Salad and Bread
MANY Desserts

We eat buffet style, open gifts from one another, listen to holiday music and just enjoy being together!!!

Christmas Day:

The girls buy Daddy the Belgian waffle mix from Williams Sonoma and he makes waffles. WE got him pure Maine Maple Syrup from Stonewall kitchen in Maine, juice and coffee!!! We lounge in pj's most of the day and will just eat leftovers...........

Last Christmas eve morning, DH decided we should drive to WDW!!! We left Christmas day and had a blast............not this year though.....bummer!!
