can annyone share some good recipes with me no turkey as i dont eat but everything else is oke

we are trying to do a sit down meal this year and i need some ideas

For Christmas dinner we always have the same exact thing (my in laws would have a heart attack if there were any variation at all :confused3)
baked ham with pineapple
homemade macaroni and cheese
harvard beets
green beans
corn
rolls and butter
olives and pickles

Our Christmas dinner never involves turkey. Usually its:

Steaks on the grill
Baked stuffed shrimp
mashed potatoes
gravy
green beans with mushrooms
honey glazed carrots
rolls

and dessert is an assortment of Christmas cookies.

I refuse to be in the kitchen all day on Christmas!

Last year I made an oven roast with au jus gravy, garlic mashed potatoes, broccoli, and rolls :thumbsup2

We always have steak on the grill. I too do not want to be in the kitchen all day!

We always have a standing rib roast for Christmas.

(Ham - Easter)
(Turkey - Thanksgiving)
(Standing Rib Roast - Christmas)
(Crown Rack of Pork - New Years)

We also have homemade raviolis, homemade fettucini, mashed potatoes or cheesy potatoes, fish, corn and green beans, shrimp cocktail.

We used to do the whole "Feast of the 7 fishes" but it was more for tradition. We kind of have backed away from that since no one was eating some of the stuff. We used to make baccala, smelts, calamari, etc. We've kept the fish and the shrimp, though, since people will eat that. I might make some calamari this year since my DD likes that.

In the past I have made glazed ham, lasagna, stuffed shells, pizza (yes pizza!), leg of lamb and burgers. For years when I was working as a chef and we served traditional dinners the last thing I wanted to do was come home and cook my own turkey and fixings. I don't even cook turkey for Thanksgiving.

I like to make prime rib. It's easy, easy, easy!

Sides can vary. A nice creamy potato au gratin is delicious, or mashed potatoes. Gravy. Yorkshire pudding is also easy, or nice rolls. Roasted brussells sprouts and corn as usually the veggies.

I always start the meal off with shrimp cocktail.

We do the same thing every year....and I'd be VERY bummed if we didn't have this !!

Standing rib roast w/ horseradish cream on the side
Yorkshire pudding
Le Seur baby peas
corn
mashed potatoes

and for dessert.... chocolate mousse w/ homemade raspberry sauce. YUM !!!!!!!!!!!!

One year my mom made green beans almondine.... yeah, we all lost our minds over that one. Can't break tradition in our house!! She never deviated again ! :rotfl2:

Olives/Pickles
Cheese/Pepperoni/Crackers
Spinach Artichoke Dip in bread bowl

Ham AND Turkey
Mashed Potatoes
Gravies
Corn & another veggie (2nd veggie usually differs)
Turnips
Stuffing
French Meat Stuffing
Cranberry Sauce

Then for dessert, everyone usually brings one or two to share. So we'd have cookies, brownies, pies, maybe a cake or someone might get adventurous and make something new.

We've also had a big Spaghetti/Meatball dinner too with the salad & garlic bread one year.

I'd like to do a Prime Rib dinner one year. Sounds yummy!!!

My recipe:

1. Call Honeybaked Ham and reserve a ham.
2. Pick up Honeybaked Ham.
3. Warm up Honeybaked Ham (just enough to take the chill off - I like it better room temp)

:lmao:

I do make some sides - usually scalloped potatoes and a veggie.

We do our big family meal on Christmas Eve late and it is rarely the same. I would say our most frequently repeated has been prime rib smothered in chopped garlic, fresh rosemary and cracked pepper. Served with mashed or baked potatoes, various veggie dishes and fresh baked bread. We have been known to do BBQ ribs, lasagna, pork roast, surf and turf, New England crab boil, beef wellington, the list is pretty endless. Depends on what I find in the stores on sale, what I feel like doing/how traditional I am feeling, how many people we will have and the ol' budget!

Christmas Day dinner...might be leftovers, pizza, chinese takeout, or something from the crock pot. We do an early brunch in the morning after gifts are opened and then everyone gets sent home and we go skiing for the last half of the day! That has been our method the last few years and I love it.

Our recipe this year, is a trip to Walt Disney World.

Special Christmas Breakfast at Crystal Palace
Lunch wherever we decide, spur of the moment
Skipping Dinner for the Holiday Wishes Dessert Party

Couldn't be any easier than this.

Funny, DH and I were just talking about this concept a couple of days ago. As soon as my brother hosts his first Christmas, we will be saying hello to the mouse for Christmas. The only thing that holds us back now is that my mom and brother don't have anywhere else to go except my place. The inlaws have each other and MIL has her mom and brothers and sisters. Leaving them for a year, or maybe every year :goodvibes, would be a relief. She makes holidays such a pain!:headache:I love her dearly, but would someone tell her it isn't a competition.

We host Christmas Eve Dinner, as my MIL hosts Christmas dinner.
The Eve means more to me so I'm happy that it's my night.
We start eating at about 3 pm and it goes on all night as dessert sort of lingers on for a while as we open presents at home Christmas Eve.
(We travel on Christmas morning to MIL's 2 hours away...)

This is what we make:
Appys in the living room:
cheese plate (assortment of WI cheddar, Norwegian gjetost & ridder cheeses)
with grapes & crackers, and holiday summer sausage

Dinner in the dining room:
Savory Cranberry Pork Loin Roast http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Quick-Savory-Cranberry-Glazed-Pork-Loin-Roast/Detail.aspx
Mashed Red skin cream cheese potatoes
pickled beets
creamed dill cucumbers and onions
Green beans or (even better!) Asparagus
Buttered Baby carrots
Norwegian Lefse and homemade whole grain crescent rolls

Sparkling Cider and Milk

Dessert in the living room:
Coffee & Teas with...
Norwegian Riskrem (rice cooked in lightly sweetened milk with cinnamon until soft,
chilled, then mixed with fresh whipped cream flavored with
almond emulsion and slivered almonds, and placed into glass dessert cups)
Assorted homemade Christmas cookies
(honey lebkuchen, spritz, krumkake, sandbakels, and lots of chocolate cookies too)
and cream cheese bourbon pecan pound cake :cloud9:
oh, I can hardly wait!!!

Well, my mom passed away 2 years ago, so I just can't fathom Christmas at home right now. The first few years after we were married, we just had a small meal at home with minimal decorations, then after we found out we couldn't have a baby (on Christmas Eve) we kind of quit celebrating almost exclusively because it was so painful. Christmas Day 2008 was he** on earth and I decided last year, I wasn't going through that another year, so we went to WDW over Christmas week, instead of the week prior as usual.

I am not spending my holiday with my in-laws, because somebody's feelings are bound to get hurt, so we celebrate by ourselves.

My 2 cousins live close by, but I don't want to intrude on their holiday, so we just do our own thing.

Last year was the first year we did it and it is easier to get time of work at Christmas for me, so we decided to go. The company I work for is pretty generous with time off at Christmas, I figured I would add a few more days.
