we could not get whispering canyon for christmas dinner (which would have beeb nice we are staying at WL) but did get chef mickey's. we have never eaten there before. I've heard good and bad about CM...has anyone here eaten there for christmas dinner?

You couldn't pay me enough to eat at a buffet on Christmas Day! We tried it last year. Starting on the 24th, the buffets got so crowded that you had to wait an eternity to get food. And forget second helpings!!

I usually like Chef Mickeys and would recommend it at any other time of the year!

I didn't think about that point! maybe i should keep trying for whispering canyon then...

I don't understand this. I've been at many buffets/character meals that were a full house many times for dinner. How can they be MORE crowded at Christmas? It's not like they bring in more tables on that day. It's the same number of tables, so the same number of people should be able to fit in the restaurant when it's full.

AGREED!!! Chef Mickeys is always crowded and or booked full and they have two sides to their large buffet and the lines we have been in have been very minimal! I doubt this will be a problem on Christmas day! I think it would be awesome to be there for Christmas Day! What a great thing to spend Christmas with your family, the characters and good food! I say do it!

Just letting those who are going to Chef Mickey's on Christmas Day, be sure to have your ADR confirmation number & the time you are to eat at with you once you arrive at the Contemporary & you might even have to show photo id or your Resort ID card to prove your name is on the list of guests only comming because they have an ADR. (That's if your staying somewhere else) In the past on Christmas Day I have seen security Cast Members walking around the Contemporary parking lot, checking to see if the parked cars had Contemporary guest parking passes for those staying there & checking cars that had the temporary 3 hour parking passes. During that time the Contemporary goes into lockdown mode, so they only let guests who are staying there & guests with confirmed ADR's park their cars, so if you don't have either one they will ask you to leave. I remember last New Years Eve at the Contemporary a lot of people trying to parked were turned away & the CM at the gate told us, some guests photo copy their Contemporary parking passes (the ones you get if your a guest staying there) & giving them to other family or friends so they can park there. So that is why you also might be asked to show photo ID & Resort ID.

I don't understand it either. For buffets, we usually book the first seating, and the restaurants are never full during our meal.

However, when we tried buffets last year at Christmas, the restaurant was packed within 10 minutes of opening.

It's because Christmas & New Years are a very bust time for WDW, no matter where you go. One time on New Years Eve my family & I had a 7:00 PM ADR for Boma. We did not get seated until 8:45 PM & we knew that they would be very busy because, this was our 2nd time at Boma in 2 days & the 1st time we waited just as long to be seated, with an ADR.
