Christmas Decorations

Does anyone know when Christmas decorations are put up at WDW?

They start just before Thanksgiving. On several trips we have watched the parks transform day by day when we visited Thanksgiving week.

So...if we were going only to see the Christmas decorations, would Thanksgiving week be a good time?

At DL, they slowly put up the Christmas decorations during Thanksgiving week. Each night after closing, Disney Magic occured. Example: One day we went, and Grandmother Willow (obviously a few years back) had transformed into a huge Christmas tree. So if you are interested in seeing the transformation happen, I would recommend Thanksgiving week. However, if you want to see all the decorations up already, you should wait a little bit. Of course, this is all assuming that WDW does it similar to DL.

If you are only going to see the Christmas decorations and schedules are not an issue, I would go the first week of December and avoid some of the Thanksgiving crowd. We were there last year from Dec. 10-20 and the crowds were minimal until our last day. Regardless, have a great time. The Christmas decorations are beautiful and worth seeing. Don't forget to visit the various resorts to see their decorations!

I wish I could go in early December. I am a teacher so I can only go during Thanksgiving or Christmas. A CM while I was just there said, "you pay a lot of money and don't get to do much."

But we took a backstage tour in March and got to see the warehouse where they keep all the stuff. Seems Christmas very special to Walt. They work on the decorations all year long and have a tremdous sized warehouse that does nothing but Christmas. They hand check each set of lights as they are being put up. Each display is shrink wrapped after they are checked and cataloged.

Each resort has their own theme, etc. It was truly amazing to see what is done for Christmas!
