Christmas Decorations less this yr?

I didn't read that one, hmm. I remember something like the wreath basically fell apart and they were going to reconstruct it at some point. Maybe that was tied into the supervisor.

Anyway, I guess if it's not back by next year it's gone for good.

They don't seem to be too keen on replacing Christmas decorations that go away. Remember the reason the LoW left was because the technology was obsolete? OK, I can buy that. But there's all sorts of new technology they could replace it with..... yet nothing.

What are the odds the Jingle Jungle Parade will come back when the construction is over? My guess is very low.

As a crafter/artist, I know my visual memory is faulty at best. And mine is better than most people's, if not quite eidetic.

So... are there less decorations?

To be honest, I thought there were more in some places and less in others. I still miss the Lights of Winter, but someone's gone and (slightly) spiffed up the railroad tracks outside Germany, giving them a little seasonal makeover that's been absent in previous years. (Though it'll never be as amazing as it was in 2007, the first time we saw it - is that memory, of a Christmas village all lit up, accurate? I have no idea!)

I prefer the garlands on the sides of Main Street to the wires with wreaths dangling from them that used to criss-cross the street before. I think, as far as decor goes, they're basically the same.

The windows on Main Street are just as spectacular as ever!

We were starting to wonder where the seasonal music was at Pop Century, but then it kicked in near the end of the first week of December. (Maybe they were trying to cut down on the number of weeks in which they torture their staff.)

We noticed the absence of the big wreath at the Contemporary, but we also noticed that there was scaffolding all over the windows and men working. So, I won't jump to any conclusions about that until next year.

I thought the light projections behind the Candlelight Processional choir seemed more spectacular this year. Were they? Who knows!

While there have been some concrete changes (Lights of Winter), by and large relying on visual memory is not a working strategy for measuring anything. Our memory enhances everything in our past, making it both more wonderful and more terrible than it was before. On your first trip, you'll be bowled over by Christmas at Disney. Your second trip... you've seen it all before. Your third trip... that Gingerbread carousel begins to look smaller than you thought it was, and you begin to wonder if they're trying to save money in the flour budget.

Though I'm sad to see the Osborne Lights go, I rather suspect that "a Star Wars/Toy Story Christmas" will soon be a thing. And we may see more lights at Disney Springs. And Animal Kingdom will have something new, I'm sure, once the makeover is complete.

While Disney IS committed to their bottom line, and also to environmental responsibility (annually disposing of a million plus lightbulbs is a wee bit of an issue), they also know a money maker when they see it. People like lights. They like Christmas decorations. I expect we'll enjoy much of both, in the years to come. :)

No, not much ever gets replaced.

I loved the Jingle Jungle Parade :(

So far looks like folks are saying less decorations. How about the resorts? I always loved the huge displays made out of chocolate and sugar. I will always remember the look on the face of a kid about 6 when his mom told in the huge display ate the Boardwalk was all chocolate, all the kid omg all of that. lol
One way of seeing what has changed is to look at your old photos. My relatives always takes a number of photos in the same spot. On main street, displays at the resorts, christmas trees. Seeing the same view over a spread of yrs really seems to show how much has been cut back especially away from the entrances.
So how about others out there, what are you feeling about the level of decorations? Is the Christmas music being piped in everywhere? Have fun if your there now.

A few yrs ago, in the BC lobby there was a gingerbread house off to the side. And this yr even though they had the carousel, i didn't see any character figures on it aside from Donald at the top. I thought last yr Micky and the gang were standing in between the horses.

How about the resorts
The resorts seem to have maintained their large, main displays. However, the small things that used to be everywhere seem to have diminished over the years. Their still is a lot, but just less. For a first time visitor though, it will still look amazing. Just for repeat visitors, one can see less.

we were there first week of Dec and have been a number of times before at same time. We all noticed and agreed that we thought there were less decorations overall. The main areas (eg lobbies, entrances to parks etc.) are still excellent but in outskirts there could be almost nothing.

Just bumping this. Any others there now or just back. What do you think?

I went last weekend for my first (and probably only) Christmas trip. We went with the main goal of seeing the Osborne lights. Second goal was to see as much of the Christmas décor as possible. LOVED the lights but as for the décor I was really underwhelmed. I expected a whole lot more.

Is this just another example of pay more and get less?

In the parks, yes, fewer decorations than 5 years ago, but they haven't really been dwindling over the years since then. Fewer things like garlands or bows on street lamps.

We had the same feeling. Lights were great, decor at the resorts were meh. We ended up scrapping a lot of other resort visits because it seemed repetitive after a while. Even the delux resorts were rather underwhelming. I always heard how great Wilderness Lodge was with decorations, well it wasnt any different than any other resort with a tall tree IMO.

As far as I can tell the décor at Wilderness Lodge hasn't changed in about 15 years, so that isn't a result of its changing anything.

I loved the Jingle Jungle Parade, it will go the way of the Christmas Parade at Hollywood Studios. They used the base(s) of a float used in AK's afternoon and Christmas Parade for the dragon in Festival of Fantasy. The year that the cut back in decorations really hit me, was the when the garland from Main Street buildings turned Casey's Corner and ended a foot later. They couldn't even be bothered with stringing it to the end of the building. IMO they decorate Main Street and Magic Kingdom only for what the cameras can see in the taped Christmas Parade.

Is the giant Mickey wreath still gone from the Contemporary? We loved it in 2010 and missed it so much last year!!

And the buntings across Main St...

It was not there last Sunday. We were looking for it since we planned a visit to have lunch there and we knew the monorail would be traveling in the right direction for a good view.

The garlands on Main Street were changed to accommodate the parade floats for FoF. Honestly, I think it looks better now than having the wires across blocking the view of the castle. This was debated ad nauseum in another thread.
I know why they were removed, and wasn't debating whether they look better now or then...but a wreath plus garland is more quantity over just a wreath. Hence less.

and didn't the refillable mugs used to be holiday themed around Christmas? not really a decoration, but something to get in a Christmas mood?

I have to say I didn't even notice that there were "fewer" Disney character figures on the Beach Club carousel. and I am pretty sure that doesn't bother me.

Not unless they did it back when they had resort specific mugs, and even then it would've been quite a long time ago, because the last time I got a resort specific mug was in December 2006 (which was the last year they had them) and it wasn't Christmasy. I do however have a mug that I got on either that trip or my trip in Dec 2007 that I got by paying maybe $2 more for a drink at a quick service place, and it's Christmasy. Maybe that's what you're thinking of?

They were! I have one from the poly, it's mickey and Minnie ice skating.

I just got back from my trip last week. I totally enjoyed being immersed in Christmas decorations. Did I wonder if they were different from past years, less or more? No, I was in the most magical place on earth and its Christmas time. My decorations at home are never the same every year.

Embrace the magic and enjoy the Holiday and decorations!
