One of my co workers got back from the world yesterday, first time in 4 yrs & with kids. Had a good time. She commented that it seemed there were less decorations than 5 ys ago. My cousin is there now with the grand kids said that it didnt seem there were as many decorations as in the past few trips, he has disney time share. So for repeat christmas visitors do you think there is less decorating going on?

First time going for Christmas next week so I can't offer much insight. But, please tell me WDW has not gone cheap on Christmas too.

It's funny, we saw way more decorations than the last time we were there! Now granted, we went the second week of November this year and the third week of November in 2013 so it's not a perfect comparison to December but that was my observation.

I just got back and, yes, it seemed like less decorations. I'm comparing it to 5 years ago, which was my last trip at Christmas time.

I have not been this year, but I would say that is true of almost every year since 2002, the year following 9/11. In the years prior, seemed like more every year, now less every year.

Less?
Yes.

Just curious, how is this exactly measured?

No more Lights of Winter in EPCOT, the garland/bunting that went all the way across Main Street in MK is now decorative brackets with wreaths just over the sidewalks which makes a noticeable difference during the daytime (see photos). Osborne Lights are still in place at DHS but this is the last year for them, so that will be one less "decoration" this time next year. There may be other things, too, but those are what came to mind right away.

I haven't been during this time of year since 2009. Sad to hear the decorations are being cut back. Is that in the resorts or the parks - or both?

Is the giant Mickey wreath still gone from the Contemporary? We loved it in 2010 and missed it so much last year!!

And the buntings across Main St...

DVC 98'...the entire Boardwalk, our home resort, was strung in huge garland along the outside boardwalk. Took them 2 days to take down all the stuff outside off the building.
We go every Christmas and I could not agree more that every year something is missing or cut back. It is pathetic really. We talk about the "good old days" but if you never experienced it year after year you would never know. That's my 2 cents.

The garlands on Main Street were changed to accommodate the parade floats for FoF. Honestly, I think it looks better now than having the wires across blocking the view of the castle. This was debated ad nauseum in another thread.

Ah, that makes sense. They did block the view of the castle but I still really liked them.

Oh, I know and completely understand the reasoning behind the change. I do remember the other thread, as well. I didn't mean my mention of the garlands to come across as any sort of criticism on the current decorations, and I'm definitely not trying to reopen that or any other can of worms. I have no opinion or preference of one style over the other, though I don't think it would matter even if I did. I still maintain that it's a noticeable difference. You go 5 years in a row and there are red, green, and gold ornaments, then go the next year and there are red, green, and silver ornaments? Eh. Some would notice, but likely some would not. You go 5 years in a row and there are large garlands draped overhead which take up the entire width of the street, then go the next year and there is an open expanse with wreaths off to the sides? Odds are you're going to notice, if for no other reason than the view of the Castle is different. I was just trying to provide tangible examples for the poster who asked how people are measuring a change in Christmas decor at WDW.

It wasn't at the Contemporary 2 weeks ago, and we missed it... They were doing maintenance on the large windows, so that might be why it wasn't up.

The bunting on Main Street was missed as well, just not quite the same.

Stilll gone. I believe it broke and it was too expensive to repair, so the story went :(

I miss that Mickey wreath.

I thought the story was the wreath's supervisor retired, and they missed replacing that duty.

Anyway, look on recently remodeled resort rooms. Today people seem to want "Clean and bright". To me, the rooms seem less decorated, too.

I didn't read that one, hmm. I remember something like the wreath basically fell apart and they were going to reconstruct it at some point. Maybe that was tied into the supervisor.

Anyway, I guess if it's not back by next year it's gone for good.

Yes this was gone when we were at the Contemporary for Thanksgiving. There seemed to be construction of some sort on that end of the resort so that may be the reason.

EDIT - I now see that I should fully read the thread before answering. =)
