There is a posting on another forum that the christmas decoratings at WDW aren't as nice this year.

Is this true ???

While I wouldn't say the Christmas decorations are getting lousy, we did notice some things that weren't decorated this year that were decorated in years past. Not a lot, but some.......

We have gone the past 4 Christmas seasons and have noticed less and less areas being decorated. This is one of the reasons we are not going back this year. It's evident if you go each year that there are cutbacks in the way they decorate.

I remember the Days when Walt Disney World had a REAL Christmas tree on Main Street USA at Magic Kingdom & Epcot (not the reusable Fake trees that they have now every year); you could smell the tree just before entering town square. :tink: :santa:

I also miss the Osborne Lights on the Christmas Houses that were torn down to make way for the Auto Stunt Show; I wish they had rebuilt them at another Location. Now they have the Lights on the buildings of New York street but its not the same feeling that those Christmas houses had back before Disney torn them down. :tink: :santa:

Rather then rebuilding the back lot houses somewhere else, they should have put that stupid stunt show somewhere else, or better yet, not have built it at all! What a lame show, unless your into NASCAR stuff, I guess. :confused3

Is that what that is? I thought it was Valet parking!!

1) If you look closely, you will see fewer and fewer.
2) It is just one of the many cost-cutting moves to improve profits.

someone said if the people demand less they will get less.

I think next year vacation will be spent elsewhere.

I think someone posted on another thread they took a back stage tour of somekind and saw large amounts of christmas decorations in storage. I guess they don't have the personnel to put them up.

Short term profits, you got to love it.

The decorations at the Magic Kingdom were almost non-existant. I was really disappointed. There were no decorations other than main street and they were minimal at that. The tree was even down for the day when we went there.
You had to go to Epcot to get some Christmas feeling. It is a real shame.

Just a little more Igernization! ;)

We too have forgone the annual Christmas trip because it has gotten worse each of the past couple years and reports were bad for this year. Do you think they can tarnish the golden goose enough so people will notice or is marketing all that really matters to the majority of people anymore???

We camped at Ft. Wilderness this year and noticed a substantial decrease in the decorations this year. Each year they decorate a little less. It's very disappointing.

I suppose if we catalog the items hung thru-out WDW then we may find there are less. But I have not noticed anything "lousy" or a cutting of any significance. The place looks fantastic, especially the resorts

...or a cutting of any significance...
So you have noticed the cuts, just that they haven't reached any of your tolerance levels yet?

Give it time...that what's a lot of people have been saying around here for years: "it's just a little trimming back, I don't mind".

But given enough trims, adjustments, tweaks, shaves, and "no one will notices" - it all adds up to something that people do care about. Just like all the other posters on this thread.

That's been WDW's problem for 7 years now - the cuts have added up to where even the most diehard DVC owner takes notice.

Watched a re-run of a Travel Channel special about Christmas at WDW hosted by Samantha Brown last night. I would be interested to see how much they no longer do that was touted on the show.

I saw a portion of the show on TC with S. Brown too. The one thing I notice right away that she stated was the FREE picture you get for MVMCP. I think it is only 50% off now, at least that's what it was for the MNSSHP.

I noticed this year that many of the decorated greenery (wreaths, garlands, etc) didn't seem as detailed and interesting as they have in past years. I have been a professional holiday decorater (retail stores, homes) and I was always impressed with the attention to detail and elaborate designs and creative concepts of the holiday decorations at WDW. Many times this year I wasn't as impressed. I thought I was imagining it until I saw this thread. Not sure what is going on.

Can someone provide a link to the other thread where this is being discussed?

any pictures to back up these claims at all?

I come from england so have only visited WDW at christmas time twice so far and I have always been blown away by the decoration and general "Christmas BUZZ"

can't say I was dissapointed last year and comparing this to what I saw a few years previous it seemed just as good :confused3

be nice to have some hard evidence to back all this up maybe they have cut back on decorations...but have they put more into something else? I noticed a lot more christmas characters last year.................

be a shame if they are cutting back though :guilty:

I have not been in MK for awhile. I was there during the holiday decir transition.
I have heard a few people say how bad Main St looked without the swags hanging ove rthe street, an dthe Christmas tree in the Rose Garden, rather than in the town circle area.
But I have also heard that was due to the Christmas parade taping. :confused3
I have not been at MK this month to know if the tree was moved and the swags are up now or not.

With the MVMCP photo -- that can be good or bad. The photos at the Halloween and Christmas parties were pretty flimsy and cheap looking. Now they allow the PhotoPass at half off. So it is a much better photo and guests can have it touched up, add borders, and etc.

So yes, it is not free. But it is a much better quality and more professional looking than what they had been giving out the last few years.

I have been going many years and yes there has been a noticable reduction in the decorations.
