Christmas Day parade at MK

I'm interested in learning about other people's experiences in going to the Magic Kingdom on Christmas Day. We were on property during the Christmas week but avoided MK we weren't certain how early you really needed to be there prior to the park opening to secure a spot along the street. Looking ahead to next time and with your experience is fresh in your memory would my fellow board members be willing to share their experiences?

Are you thinking that the televised Christmas Day parade from the MK is live Christmas Day?

The Christmas Day parade is actually taped in early December.

It is typically taped the first weekend in December. The Disneyland portion was taped in November.

They typically give tickets to castmembers and their families to enter the park early for the taping.

Are you interested in how MK is on Christmas day? We have been and it is crazy busy. We arrived around 8-9am and it was shoulder to shoulder. It took about 45 minutes to walk to the bakery. The week was very festive, but too busy for me on the day of Christmas.

As noted, the TV parade is taped weeks before Christmas. If you go to MK on Christmas you will see the same parade you would see all the rest of the Christmas season days. In fact, Christmas Day and Easter Sunday are close to the same -- huge numbers of guests go to MK on those two holidays with the expectation that a lot of special things happen there that day in the park that they cannot see the other days of the those holiday weeks. They are greatly misinformed.

Thanks / I knew some of it was prerecord but I thought some of it was live too. As it was we had a great day at HS and EPCOT and did not have the hassle of bussing over from BC.

What you see on TV is not what happens on the day or two of taping. The parade is stopped, backed up, restarted, and repeated to get the shots that they need. Looks great on the TV but not so great live.
