How old are your kids? My DD will be 10½ next year when we go on the 10 day next year and I was wondering how to handle this.

We have a DD-12 and a DD-15.

Their age certainly was a factor. DD-12 finally came out and admitted last year she knew it was us helping Santa on Xmas.

We really waited to plan the trip till that point. That was just us. We have a Sibling who has cruised every Xmas, so his kids know nothing else.

I must admit DD-12 was not immediately thrilled about not being home for Xmas. Then she started reading about cruise stuff and she was hooked. When the Passporter arrived last Feb. she and DW grabbed it and I didn't see it for two days!

Grumpy's Mom:

(Please remember to bring the duct tape, Jim.)

You can count on me! :rotfl:

Jim,
Thanks for the reply. I'm sure by next year we will be known Santa's Helpers.

Thank yuou all for your thoughts..I am still thinking about doing Christmas 2005 by then my kids will be 9 and 13. And I am sure that my DD(the older one) will have told her little brother about Santa...

And since the rates aren't out yet for Christmas 2005 I have a few months to ponder.......

Thanks again!:wave2:

We have done Christmas away from our house since our kids were 3 and 4. We moved about 700 miles from our families due to job transfer, and always go to the families on Christmas.

The first year, we just had "christmas" the day we left. The kids didn't know it was really the 24th, they couldn't read a calendar yet.

For several years after that, we took one special present to grandparents, and "Santa" (had great neighbors!) left the rest for when we came home. Explained to the kids that Santa knew we were at Grandparents, and couldn't fit all our things in our car for the trip.

Now they're 10 and 11, and we do some before we go, and some when we come back.

We're also on the 2004 Christmas cruise, and since it's our main gift for that year (this year too!) we probably won't have that many gifts to give. The kids are already prepped that the cruise is the majority of our gifts to each other for the next 1 1/2 years.
