Christmas Cruise 2005!!!

I just called DCL...

They say that President Bush has not signed the new passport rule into effect, as of yet.

DCL also says that it most likely will NOT effect us.

FYI/cmj.

"Scrappers!"

For a second there, I actually didn't understand that ;)
I'm caught up with you now tho :teeth:

I'm more a photographer than a scrapper. I always intend to scrap, I even have some albums-but alas they sit, on my desk, unfinished

I just upgraded us to conceirge for our stay at AK & GF before and after the cruise. I keep telling myself this is a vacation & it's only money. I've been smart so far and have the cruise bucks sitting in a cd due to mature in June '05, at that time I pay it on the Disney Visa (must have the points) then pay that credit card bill off when it arrives. Now that I've upgraded I have to save a little more between now and June....arrrggggg....

I've asked about the transfer/shuttle timing from AK to the ship and they tell me it leaves AK at 12:30pm. If we can check in a 1:30pm, isn't that a little too late to get a good spot in line? I'm worried about making ressies.

Do you have to make ressie for kids club? and if so where do you do that?

Is it possible to hire a staff person to do all that for you? Just kidding, I'm in a fanatasy zone of throwing money at things to make it happen like magic (hey isn't that the idea of Disney anyways?) :rotfl:

You should make your experience as memorable as you can...

Concierge on both ends!!! You go girl!

I just read up on the kids clubs,

First: You should plan to register your children for the programs at the Oceaneer's Club and Lab soon after boarding.

The club is for ages 3 to 7: 3 and 4 yo are grouped separate from the 5 - 7 yo kids.
The lab is for ages 8 - 12:8 and 9 yo are grouped separate from the 10 - 12 yo kids.

You don't have to reserve the kids clubs. It might be too late for Palo reservations since the ship is full. If this turns out to be true, you can keep checking for a cancellation during the cruise.

That would be an additional $450 for our family! (I'd much rather spend that ON the cruise!!)
Birth certificates/DL were NO problem on our Oct. cruise.
tigger--I consider myself a "scrapper", but most of my photos are not in albums yet...3 kids, a full-time job and working on one's Masters doesn't leave much time for scrapping--but I do occasionally! I have been collecting Disney scrapbooking supplies for several years knowing we would get to DisneyWorld eventually--which we will, but I will need more supplies for those albums!
More storms and tornados around here last 3 days. Not all that much at our house, only about .10/day of rain. A bit more would be nice!
I like the earning Disney $ idea for the kids. The 2 older kids can earn $10/week if they clean the house each week--legitimately clean (dust, vaccuum, wipe down bathrooms and kitchen). Figure it's a win/win--I hate to clean (so do it as rarely as possible), and they need some opportunities to earn $. Plus they are far cheaper than a cleaning lady!
Isn't it December yet? :earseek: :sad2:

The main thing my DD Laurie did was check Alyssa in (10 years old one) & they gave her a beeper.

Tig - in answer to the hair styling. I have a wig for competition I could always wear that on formal night.

I sent an e-mail to Daves DCL site about the need for passports I'm waiting for an answer. The TA wasn't sure.

Jill :moped: :moped: :moped: :moped:

We do need passports since we dock on Dec. 31. I have read that they won't let us on the ship without them.

I just called Costco where we booked our ressie, and the TA said that we would need passports, since Castaway Cay is not US territory, although it's "Disney's private island". :confused3

We got our passports last month before the rate increase, so we're set. But it was a chuck of money I wished I could have saved. We did it for ID purposes, though.

It's Jesse's (Aladdin's Clone) birthday, so gotta go!! My baby is 13 today! :jumping1:

What documentation do I need to bring?

What documentation do I need to bring?
All U.S. and Canadian citizens must travel with proof of citizenship, which is a valid passport, original, state-certified birth certificate and picture identification, or a certified naturalization certificate with a picture identification. Acceptable forms of picture identification are state or provincial driver's license, or federal, state, province or local government photo I.D. card. Guests age 17 and under who are U.S. or Canadian citizens are only required to have proof of citizenship, excluding picture identification. These guidelines are based on U.S. government regulations which are subject to change at any time. It is the Guest's responsibility to check with their Travel Agent, government agencies, embassies or consulates prior to their vacation to ensure that they have proper documentation. Any Guest traveling without proper documentation will not be allowed to board the vessel and no refund of cruise fare will be issued.

New security guidelines require all adult Guests to show a picture I.D. to embark and disembark the ship in all ports, including Castaway Cay. Please be advised that anyone under the age of 18 wishing to go ashore unaccompanied will be required to have a consenting parent, guardian or other responsible adult with them at the gangway, to provide their signature as authorization.

What if I'm not from the U.S. or Canada?

Travel documents required throughout the vacation are the responsibility of the Guest. Please consult with your Travel Agent, government agencies, embassies or consulates to determine necessary documentary requirements. For all non-U.S. citizens, including Canadian citizens, travel documents will be collected at check-in by a Disney Cruise Line representative and a receipt will be issued for presentation to Immigration Inspectors upon return to Port Canaveral. Unfortunately, this is only true until Dec. 31, 2005. As of exactly Dec. 31, 2005, we will all need passports reguardless of age.

It's going to be here so FAST!

About the passports...I did a search and checked out the gov site:

"New Requirements for Travelers Between the United States and the Western Hemisphere

Travelers to and from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Panama, Mexico and Canada will be required to have a passport or other secure, accepted document to enter or re-enter the United States. This is a change from prior travel requirements and will affect all United States citizens entering the United States from countries within the Western Hemisphere who do not currently possess valid passports. This new requirement will also affect certain foreign nationals who currently are not required to present a passport to travel to the United States. Most Canadian citizens, citizens of the British Overseas Territory of Bermuda, and to a lesser degree, Mexican citizens will be affected by the implementation of this requirement.

The travel initiative requirements will be rolled out in phases, providing as much advance notice as possible to the affected public to enable them to meet the terms of the new guidelines. The proposed implementation timeline is as follows:

December 31, 2005 – Passport or other accepted document required for all travel (air/sea) to or from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Central and South America.
December 31, 2006 – Passport or other accepted document required for all air and sea travel to or from Mexico and Canada.
December 31, 2007 – Passport or other accepted document required for all air, sea and land border crossings."

Because we get back to the port on Dec. 31st, there are conflicting answers if we're included in this new rule. I would think DCL would know for sure, since they're the ones who have to enforce it when it comes to us getting on/off the ship. As it gets closer, I'm sure they'll have the info straight.
I just got an idea...I can call the passport office tomorrow and ask them. They should know for sure, shouldn't they?? :upsidedow

Aisling: Please let me know what the passport office says,

I just re-read what you posted and it says "passport or other accepted document."

Now how vague is that?

and I forgot to add yesterday, when I spoke to DCL...

DCL confirmed that our documentation is checked when we re-enter at PC, not CC.

 Happy Friday Everybody!

if trying to call the passport office is like trying to call the IRS??!!
In other words, impossible??!!
Well, I'm confident DCL will know FOR SURE eventually. I'm sure they don't want to be stuck w/ half a ship that cannot disembark on the 31st! (Although many of us might not mind.... :earboy2: )
If we aren't getting a definitive answer by August, we'll go down one afternoon before school starts and get these taken care of. Until then, I'm hanging on to my money!
DS9 home ill today. He thought he lost his research paper, so I accused him of faking to avoid dealing w/ it...I was wrong! That stomachache was due to more than nerves! (Oh, and his report was in his folder in his locker..."I looked in my locker....I guess I didn't look too close...! SHEESH! )
SO a "free" day--I think I am going to blow off math and SCRAPBOOK! (don't be too jealous, Nan :teeth: ) I haven't personally scrapbooked in SOOO long! I think I am going to finally work on our Oct. cruise!!! It'll get me in the mood...play a little Kenny Chesney for those beachy songs, and to rev up for that concert tomorrow! )
I think I'm kinda glad DS had to stay home...I'm gonna enjoy this day! Then I intend to enjoy this weekend w/ DH!
Bye! :wave2:
Kristin princess:

Enjoy this day for all of us...

Sorry your DS isn't feeling well  I hope he gets better quickly :wizard:

I am glad you're making the best of it and taking time for yourself :goodvibes

:rockband: Have a great time at your concert too!

I now have not only a concert, but a festival, to take DD to on May 1st. A coworker's daughter decided not to go so I bought their two tickets for me and DD to go. She's ecstatic! I even offered to let her give the ticket to a friend, as long as they drive, but she wants me to go with her :teeth:

sounds like a nice day...scrapbooking...taking care of sick kid...hmmmm....oh yeah not going to work, that makes it good. I'm going to stand in line at AAA for DMV matters today, anyone want to swap that job for another? :sad2: It's for work so at least I'll be paid for standing in line...

Our weekend is filled with T-ball and Norweigan Dancing for the kids...(I'll have to find a picture to post of this one) kind of like folk dancing for Scanadvians.

I'm all :earsgirl: for this passport info, I think we need at least one maybe 2 oursleves. The rates went up again? What are they now? Seemed like we paid $65 or so for a 10 year last time.

Hi ho, High Hoe, it's off to AAA I go.... :wave2:

Nan

p.s. DH didn't freak about the upgrade :goodvibes , when I told him I had some Disney news he replied..."how much will it cost us?" Am I that transparent? (un-huh)

p.s.s. Aisling Happy (belated) bday to your little guy :bday: & too you too, that's a big day for a mommy if you're like me a flood of memories happens once a year for child on that day.

As I am digging through all the paperwork from our Oct. cruise, it got me onto Princess's website. They have posted the "proposed" passport changes, and that IF these are enacted, they will let passengers know if it effects them.
SOOOO for the moment, we do not need them yet (YEAH). We need to see if it is officially enacted, and then I am sure that DCL will let all of us know if we need them for sure or not!
Back to scrapping.... :goodvibes
Kristin

Going to AAA for isn't too bad...

;)You could be stuck inside the office like I am
I'm only pretending to work today, I've done so much this week, I'm giving myself today off :)

Norweigan dancing sounds interesting, as long as it keeps the kids happy and busy it'll keep them outta trouble too.

My weekend will be spent looking for a prom dress for my DD.

Your DH didn't freak over the concierge!?! That's good news :)
..."how much is it gonna cost me?" :rotfl:

:cake: :bday: :rockband: :thewave: :bday: :cake:
Jesse!!! Aladddin's Clone!!!
Happy 13th Birthday!!!!!!!

Did you do anything special?

One more thing before I go to lunch...

-Regarding the oceaneer's club and lab-
Birnbaum's recommends you register your kids shortly after boarding. The clubs have staff to kid ratio to abide by and I'm assuming with a full boat you may want to get your kids name in before they fill up.

I e-mailed both DCL & Dave at Passporter.com. These are their answers.
See if you think they answered the question about needing or not. :confused3

4/22/05

Thank you for your e-mail.

All U.S. and Canadian citizens must travel with proof of citizenship, which is one of the following:
*A valid Passport
*A Birth Certificate (original with raised seal -or- an original State Certified Copy) with picture
identification. Note: Copies of birth certificates without a raised seal or copies of a Certified
Copy are not acceptable. Also, hospital Birth Certificates are not state certified; therefore they
are not acceptable.
*A Certified Naturalization Certificate along with a picture identification.

Acceptable forms of picture identification are a state or provincial driver's license with a
picture, or a federal, state, province, or local government photo I.D. card.

Travel documents required throughout the vacation are the responsibility of the guest. We ask that
guests consult with their travel agent, government agencies, embassy, or consulate to determine
documentary requirements.

Guests under 18 will be permitted to board with just their Birth Certificate if travelling with a
parent or legal guardian.

We look forward to the chance to sail with you.

Sincerely,

Tracey, Guest Communications
Disney Cruise Line

Hi Jill!

According to the information found on the Travel.State.Gov site, passports will be required starting December 31, 2005 (to or from).

"December 31, 2005 – Passport or other accepted document required for all travel (air/sea) to or from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Central and South America."

To be on the safe side, contacting your travel agent may be your best bet as they should have first hand knowledge since they deal with out of country travels. However, if you do plan on doing other travels outside of the US, getting your PassPort now might be a good thing. You can also visit: "Frequently Asked Questions about the New Travel Document Requirements (FAQs)" .

Looking forward to seeing you on the boards!

Thanks,
Debbie Wright (debe)
