Dark and scary? Well I might have to drag the family to that. We are HUGE Jim Carey fans so we will probably love it.

I think the definative CC is with George C Scott I love that one and can say all the lines when it is on which drives my family CRAZY ! I do not know if I will like this one but I will give it a try.

I find an affinity to all Christmas Carols since my son was in it in the middle school production.

But Jim Carrey has gotten weirder over the years...Or is this my imagination? I saw him yesterday on Conan O'Brien and he still seemed quite hyper. Definitely don't like the shaggy beard he is sporting.

Perhaps he was not on his meds. I think he is either bipolar or ADHD I cannot remember which. This would explain it.

It was dark and scary in places but as my Mother pointed out- A Christmas Carol really isn't a children's (as in little kids- 8 and under) movie/book/play.

It was good, but Muppets is better and so is George C. Scott....

My DD works for our local Special Recreation Park District. She went last night with the kids from the "social club" and spent all but the first 10 minutes in the lobby with 5 kids (10-14yo) that were scared to death and another staff member.

Granted, these kids all have special needs but none of them were afraid when they went to a pumpkin patch and haunted house a few weeks ago.

Maybe they had a hard time because it was IMAX 3-D?

DD wasn't too upset. She's not a fan of Jim Carey nor of the Christmas Carol and still got paid for 4 hours!

My family and I saw it last night. Half said it was just ok and other half myself and 9 year old dd didn't like it.

I will stick to the classic movie. DD thought it was very scary in parts and the second ghost talked all gibberish to us.... If this was the first time seeing the Christmas Carol I would be so confused.

Only thing I did like was the snow scenes in 3D like someone else mentioned.

We enjoyed it. I do however agree with Mermaid02, it's not really for those 8 and under.

My vote goes to Muppets as well.

We saw this Friday night in Imax 3d and we loved it!! My 14 year old even liked it which was amazing because everything is just so uncool to him now lol. My 7 year old liked it but said it was a little scary. He took the 3d glasses off which he liked better. There were a few times that even I jumped but nothing off the wall scary.

This movie is SPECTACULAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with other posters that it is NOT suited for young children due to its subject matter!

Also, non-size specific glasses need to be worn for one and one half hours if viewing it in 3D.

I was given hard framed glasses, not the "typical" red/blue lens cardboard glasses one associates with 3D.

I just returned from my second viewing, this one in 2-D. Much, much better than the 3-D version! Not nearly as dark, much more detail, didn't miss the effect one bit.

In the 2-D, you can see much more of the minute facial expressions and the rich detail in the movie.

Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol will always be my favorite. All of you seeing it tonight let me know your thoughts.

We watch this every Christmas Eve. I still haven't tried "Razzleberry Dressing"

My nephew and I saw it on Tuesday evening. I am not a fan of most movie versions of the Christmas Carol story, but my nephew wanted to see it and I'd watch just about anything to get to spend time with him, so we went.

Honestly, it was the best version I've ever seen. The original story itself is rather dark and I'm always annoyed at the efforts to make it "cute" and "cuddly" for kids. So I enjoyed that this version was darker.

I thought the 3-D was really well done, especially the scenes where you're flying above town, in the snow. And I thought the eyes of the characters showed much improvement over the last time I saw this type of animation (Polar Express).

Overall, yes it is a darker telling of the classic story than some might be used to. And I do think it might scare young and/or more sensitive children. But, it was a really well done and, I think, accurate representation of the story.

True, he did not write to amuse children, but A Christmas Carol was supposed to be a heartwarming kind of story, and honestly Disney's version fell flat.

I hated it. By far the worst version of this story I've ever seen, and I've seen them all. The shrinking part at the end was the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen in any version. This was a terrible, terrible disappointment.

Mine too! This version was my first exposure to A Christmas Carol. It came on in the 60s when I was about 5. Mr. Magoo got me hooked.

I saw the 3d version today with my mom. I have been wanting to see this since I first heard about it. I also wanted to see it before my kids see it to see if might be too scary for them. Within the first few minutes, I was already saying they wouldn't enjoy this, they would be too scared.

Overall, I thought it was awesome! My only complaint about this type of animation is the eyes. They are very often cross-eyed and have a 'dead' look to them. Everything else is great though!

Yeah I totally agree with this. I just saw it tonight. I heard they were trying to improve this area but it didn't seem better to me. It was very distracting. I think its because everything else on them seemed so real, there faces too, just something about the eyes that wasn't right.

But everything looks amazing besides the characters' eyes. The 3D really is incredible and the shots of the city look very real. And I loved how it most of it was straight from the book, incorporating some things that aren't usually included in portrayals of Dickens' story.

Can't say I liked it though. The zombie eyes is very unnerving and the third ghost rollercoaster ride was too over the top. And Jim Carrey's British accent was terrible. Most of the time it seemed Scottish.

Ah, well. I guess I'll have to watch the one with Patrick Stewart as Scrooge to make me feel better, that's one of my favorites.
