Christmas Cards? Do you send? Do you like to receive?

I have send Christmas cards every year for forever.

It takes a huge amount of money in postage, plus the cards, plus the pictures we put in them, and above all, the huge amount of time to write them all.

I'm just wondering if what you all do? Do you send cards? Do you like to get cards?

I had someone tell me once to do Thanksgiving cards instead but I ended up paying MORE for the cards since I didn't get them on the after xmas sale and the postage and time alottment was the same so it didn't help at all. I'm not even sure DH looked ta the cards we received last year -- this time of year is so darn busy and i have a feeling he never looked in the basket where we keep them.

I like sending and receiving. Although I need to get on the ball and get mine ready to send this weekend. So far I have only received one in the mail.

I like them, but I agree that they can be expensive. I give out some to people I see to save on stamps. But, it's a nice way to stay in touch.

To make it easier, I just do a photo card; usually no note. In the past, I have done labels to save on time, too.

I love getting Christmas cards. I especially appreciate the ones from far away friends and relatives that include pictures. I don't even mind the brag letters, and I read every one. In fact we got our first one of those today. All I can say is some families are just downright amazing. ;)

I have to admit I'm a bit lax when it comes to sending our cards though. :guilty:
I bought some really cute ones, and I have every intention of mailing them out this year, we'll see if it actually happens.

I do not like to send cards nor receive them (I feel guilty throwing them away after Christmas but I do not need boxes of cards laying around that I'll realistically never read again). I do like the SHORT little picture/postcards my cousin has professionally done every year with a brief summary of their year and a cute picture. We don't get to see them much so it's nice to know how they're doing (I am however not a fan of the 2-3 page "newsletters" just to brag about everything in your life or, to the opposite end of the spectrum, talk about how depressing your life has been and how nothing ever goes right for you).

I LOVE Christmas. Just not Christmas cards :).

I love sending cards, it's really a way for me to let people know that they are special to me, but I have only been able to send out a handful this year since my dh has been laid off. :sad2:

I have alway receive many card thoughout the years, last year we received in the upper 20's and treasure everyone we get, we display them every year on our living room door and look at them everyday thoughout the season and then after the first of the year we throw them out, but every card makes us feel the holiday spirit and know we are thought about.
This year so far we have only received one as of today, and that has made me sad for what has become of things. :sad1:

I love getting cards with pictures and letter! It helps me keep up with people I don't see too often and is so much more personal than Facebook.

I am guilty of not getting Christmas cards out either though. I usually do New Year's cards and address them the week in between Christmas and New Years (I work in education). It costs a little more, but is worth the lack of yet another thing to do on my list!

I love to send and receive cards. I like to include photos, so to cut down on cost I usually do photo cards. You can usually find great prices on folded cards at winkflash.com. We are not doing it this year because DH was laid off last week and the extras have to be cut for now.

I love to send and receive cards. This year i did cut back and not send as many out. I did photo cards I had done at picture people.

I send them every year and love getting them. This year I sent a half-page letter with what we did this year (big trips, some noteworthy news about our son, my swimming, etc) and then had about 10 pictures on the front and back. Easy and simple to read and create. I just folded the letter and stuck it in the card to those that I'm not on facebook or email with.

I love sending and receiving Christmas cards every year. We have been doing the photo cards for the past 12 years and I know alot of people look forward to them. We started when my husband and I first started dating, then we added the dog, and now our two children take center stage in the photos.

I just ordered 225 cards for this year....

We always send a photo card along with a newsletter. Hope people like them!

I made a "Christmas Book" that has all of the cards and newsletters throughout the years - makes a nice memoir!

Merry Christmas!:santa:

I like to send and receive them. To cut costs I:

-keep track of who sends them back, if I don't get one from that person I don't send them one the following year.

-take our photo with a digital camera, have prints made on a photo site such as Snapfish, this year it was $2.98, and most of that was shipping.

-buy cards 1/2 off after Christmas.

-hand write letters and only to people that I don't see regularly.

After Christmas I take the cards we recieved and cut up the pictures on them to make gift tags for next year. I haven't bought tags in years.

Well let me put it this way, it is a family tradition ;)
I have gotton to the point where it is a chore. I will send them out for 3 more years. Our youngest is a Freshman in HS. I may send a few after wards but only to closest family.
One reason I hate sending them out is when I pick up from Christmas I throw the ones I have recvd and the pictures that come with them, into the closet they go. Only to be dug out for funeral posters........
Happy Holidays!:santa:

I do that as well. I use the pictures I've taken over the year as my photos and print the letter at home. I either design my own paper or buy some the year before at half price (this year's paper was bought last year for 73 cents). I'm a graphic artist so it's pretty easy for to do this.

In the past we have sent in the neighborhood of 100 cards. This year I got in on the 50 "free" photo cards from SeeHere (ok, three bucks and change) posted here on the forum. And because I typically end up in charge of the cards, I think we've fired off friends and close family and will hold a few in reserve for unexpected card arrivals. By the way, the cards came out great - thanks to the Budget Boarder who posted that tip ! :thumbsup2

I buy a package of cards that you can put a picture of the kids in each year at an after Christmas sale. I take a trip to WDW in Nov & have the kids stand in front of a tree somewhere. (It is hard to get all of them in the same place at once at home.) When we get home, I print them out myself on my computer. I also print out a short message to update everyone. (DS made the football team & DD danced in the Nutcracker...) I have the kids sign their names & put the photo in the card. All I do is pay for postage & address them. So far I have sent out 5 cards. I send to friends & relatives that send me a card & my Uncle an X postmaster that yells if he doesn't get a card. LOL!

I send cards every year and love to receive them. We decorate our mantel with the cards that we receive. After Christmas, I take them down and save the fronts of the cards. Then next year, my girls use them to make "new" cards for friends and family. They love having their own cards to give out.
