Christmas Cards...a thing of the past?

I don't hate electronic cards but am just kind of indifferent toward them. Its not as though they picked only me out of they're list of friends to send the card too. I know 50 other people got the exact same card at the exact same time. It doesn't hurt my feelings or anything, I just don't really care about them...know what I mean?

As for the paper cards.....They're ok. I like getting them if they have a personal message in them. I got one today that just said, "With love- so and so" I was thinking thats it? "With love"?? Why bother? At the same time, she did at least take the effort to pick out cards and buy stamps etc so it means a tad more than an e-card.

Personally I have cut them out this year. My list is sooooo long and I just can't afford that kind of postage. While my circle of friends and family is long, it is also very tight knit, so if even one person was taken off the list, everyone would know about it. So it isn't like I can just pare down my list. So I just decided not to send them to anyone.

A couple of years ago instead of sending Christmas cards I sent cards at Valentine's Day. I had so many people tell me what a wonderful surprise it was to get a card in the mail on a day when they weren't expecting one, and that it meant so much to them since I felt less obligated to send them like people do at Christmas. I may decide to do that again this year. We'll see.

I normally never do cards, but this year I made a photo card and sent those out..I think that is a little more personal than just a card and they have pics of us :goodvibes

Does anyone really value those? I know I don't.

If they have a really pretty cover, I incorporate them into my scrapbooking..:thumbsup2 I have one sitting here right now - the word "Peace" in gold, with very small sprigs of holly attached to the letter "P" and a small, red Christmas ornament (trimmed with gold) hanging down from the letter "e".. :santa:

I was at my local Hallmark shop a few weeks ago and the woman in front of me spent over $100 on christmas cards. She didn't purchase the sets that are sold in boxes. She purchased individual cards. :confused3

I only send cards to family and close friends. I haven't sent any yet, but will do so in the next couple of days. :thumbsup2

I still send and love to get them. We have lived in different places and I love hearing what our friends have been doing. We are so in the middle of raising kids/work that it is next to impossible to keep track of our friends who are doing the same thing. I love seeing the pictures of how the kids have changed/grown and reading what they have been up to over the previous year.
