Christmas Cake

Okay, I've figured out how to make Christmas cake( buy a packet mix),but should I make it now or wait a while?
Also can I feed the maturing cake alcohol? I know it's not a pudding but I'm sure a little rum wouldn't hurt!
What do you think?

It's basically a fruit and nut cake which you cover(or not) with icing
and marzipan, or what ever takes your fancy.
I think it's called Christmas cake to sell more.
