Trip overview: Disney World from Dec. 21 to Dec. 27, 2000. (Six nights, only five full days, but seven days total.)
We stayed at the Walt Disney World Dolphin, visited the parks four days (including Christmas Day) but concentrated on enjoying the decorations and the atmosphere more than getting on a lot of rides, took an Illumination Cruise (Epcot Specialty Cruise) and a Moonlight Firework Cruise (MK Specialty Cruise), did the Fantasmic Dinner Package, ate at Hollywood and Vine (Studios) , Jungle Jim's (offsite) Akershus (Epcot), Rainforest Cafe (AK) and Dolphin Coral Cafe (for buffet breakfast) as well as various counter service places including Cosmic Rays (MK) and The Land food court (Epcot). We had airport pick-up from Tiffany Towncar service and rented a car from National for one day.
People on the trip: My mother (elderly), my brother, my husband and myself (middle-aged), teen daughter and preteen son.
Background: My mother lives in Miami, so we usually stop at Disney when we drive down to visit her in the summer. When my father was living, they often used to join us in Disney for a few days. Back then, the kids were small. We skipped Disney for a couple of years after my father died, and then the kids asked to go again. My mother had always refused to go without my father until this year when she came up with the idea of spending Christmas at Disney. We had mixed feelings because it's a difficult time of the year to travel, we were afraid of the crowds and we also felt that my mom might not be up to it. We were right about all these things, but the trip turned out okay anyway. It helped a lot that we got to stay at a comfortable, centrally located resort like the Dolphin.
