Christmas 2017

We went the Sunday after thanksgiving in 2014 and stayed til the first Friday in December. Crowds were so light. Did they not have Candlelight Processional that year? The reason I ask is because we want to go back that same week in 2017 and don't know if there will be a candlelight processional next year. We've already booked our hotel but now we are second guessing the dates. We love the Christmas decor and atmosphere but want to avoid closer to Christmas because I think crowds will be worse. Thoughts?

Candlelight if I remember always falls on the first weekend of December, with the exception of the year they did it twice every weekend which lead to lots of insanity.

We almost went that week for this year because someone told us it's pretty good for crowds. If it weren't for a concert in the area mid-November that we "have to catch", that's the week we'd want. So your pick is just fine.

For us, Candlelight is the start of Christmas as a family. It is basically the narration of the Christmas story, with choirs. For me, it is very powerful. Here are a couple clips.

I do miss the Candlelight Processional from Epcot. Huge arena to fit all the people without making the park crazy. And the Liberty Voices along with the choir and superstar speakers made the experience totally awesome. Still love to pull out all the home movies and watch at Christmas time.

At Disneyland it is done on Main St at the Train Station on the first full weekend in Dec. This year, it is Dec 3/4. They do 2 performances on Sat and 2 on Sunday. The guest narrator will be announced in November. At Disneyland it is open to all, no special event ticket needed. There is a seated area for VIP and media, and then some benches on the sides, but the majority is standing room. It is incredible to watch. We've done it the last 7 years or so. The procession comes down Main St singing and then fills the train station. The "Christmas Tree" are all cast members. Other members of the choir are from local churches and schools.

ohhhh so it's a disneyLAND thing ... ok. thanks for clearing that up! I actually found this thread because I was looking for Christmas threads. I didn't even notice until now that this is in the disneyland forum! doh!

It is also in WDW, they do it nightly there. I don't know enough about how it is done there.
