Christmas 2011 school Holidays

Is this REALLY low season?? Like SERIOUSLY?! If so HOLY CRAP!

The busiest week at Disney for the entire year is Dec. 24 - 31st. DVC Low season starts on January 1st. So, the other poster will get 1 peak season day, and then the week of Jan. 1st is considered low season for DVC. I've been at that time, and depending upon school breaks, crowds vary. Since Christmas falls when it does, I suspect that this week is going to be much busier than usual. We found that by Jan. 3rd crowds were lower, but then by the end of that week, crowds are heavy again for Marathon weekend. We had a few days of low crowds, and then Marathoners came in, and it was very busy again.

I was curious how school boards were posting this so early?? Our school boards (Ottawa) has not posted anything.

I really do hope this is the case because we will definitely be seriously looking at a vacation Jan 1st. Bonus that I can use vacation days from next year and kids are out of school!

Boards always put out tentative calendars during the current school year, as the calendar has to be stamped by the Ministry, and then we pass to trustees and they decide on the final calendar, based on Ministry approval.

This is rather late for boards not to have some type of tentative schedule. My board has had a tentative schedule out for months. We found out in beginning of January that we were getting a board holiday for Dec. 22.

Good luck getting the info that you need, Tiger

Ok, we had heard the second week of December, was considered off season, and in fact, they offered free dining for that week in 2010.

Does anyone know if that's the case?

From my understanding, EVERY school board in Ontario (save for 1 in Northern Ontario) applied to the Ministry to change their holiday from the Ministry's dates of the last two weeks of December to the later dates (Last week in Dec/First week in Jan).

Hope that helps!

Does anyone know what the school holidays are in florida? I wonder if there will be lots of locals if they have the later dates as well?

Yup, and that's for consistency, as well as the fact that the Ministry is not going to say no to a plethora of school boards. When most, if not all, want to deviate from the Ministry's original holiday plan, it shows the Ministry that it is a necessary change, and that bodes well for it to be approved. There is strength is numbers for this type of thing.

Oh man -- this will mean that we have a week at WDW, and then have to ferry DD from DH's work to mine for a whole week before school. Rats.

Last year we experienced WDW Christmas crowds for the first time, and they are crazy! Fortunately DD fully understood that one ride a day (using fast pass) was the likely limit. Even the outlet mall on I Drive was nuts.

Currently, the Orange County School Board (Metro Orlando) takes their Winter Holidays from 20 December to 31 December, the Seminole County School Board (northern suburbs) takes theirs from 23 December to 7 January and the Osceola County School Board (Kissimmee and environs) takes theirs 19 December to 3 January.

Have been for 2 NYE and was crazy. Still busy on Jan. 1 both years, but almost vacant (for WDW) for Jan. 2. Got very busy again for the Marathons. It was lovely having the decorations still up though, and if you go for Dec. 30 or sooner the Candlelight Processional should still be on (totally amazing!). Will probably be busy that whole week because of the school holiday schedule. Wish I could join all of you, I love it that time of year at Disney- crowded or not. Oh well, always Christmas 2012.
