Sunday, June 19th
Our final full day at Disney is here. It's unbelievable how fast it goes. So much planning goes into it, the stress of getting there, and them whoosh, it's over.
We decided the night before, to just spend a short time at Epcot. We had sort of done Epcot in "pieces" and really only had the three "big" rides to do: Mission Space, Soarin, and Test Track. The kids really enjoyed Typhoon Lagoon and DS really wanted to do Blizzard Beach. I like the water parks too so we decided to try to cram it all in.
Since I had cancelled my PS for the Cape May Clambake earlier in the week, I had booked a PS for Kona Cafe the night before. We had a 5:10 PS so it was going to be a fast day.
I woke up in the morning to realize that my body was starting to revolt against all the fine dining.
I won't go into graphic detail, but until about 12:00, I wasn't quite feeling 100 percent. We went to Epcot and headed straight for Soarin'. Since it had all the motion sickness warnings up and my intestines were in a revolt, I had to sit this one out. Even though there was only a 10 minute wait for the ride, it took my family at least 45 minutes to complete the entire ride. Fortunately for me, Soarin' has a very nice waiting area and a very nice bathroom that I got to know really well.
Everyone LOVED this ride. I heard a few people coming off the ride saying "this is my new favorite ride." I'm really sorry to have missed it.
After Soarin' we headed to Test Track which already had a 35 minute standby. We got Fast Passes which were for an hour later. We then headed to Mission Space. There was only a 5 minute wait here and it never seemed to get busy. I guess because of the sad incident that happened a few days before, many people were leary of riding. I definitely wasn't going on it and DS backed out too. My dad went as well as my DH and the girls. They all really enjoyed the ride and DH said "it was a piece of cake." Now remember, he did feel queasy on Spaceship Earth.
Next, we waited a few minutes for our Fast Pass to come up for Test Track. I decided to beg off once again as I was still feeling out of sorts. DH stayed off also because he had gone on the ride a few nights before and was "bored" with it (his words).
So everyone else went and we gave our remaining Fast Passes to some very grateful people who were waiting. DS made it on to Test Track this time without another vomiting incident. He was very happy with himself.
We said farewell to Epcot, jumped in the car, and headed to Blizzard Beach.
When we arrived at about noon, the place was JUMPING. It was hard to find a chair.
One thing I forgot to point out on my last installment was that on the Saturday, there was a very noticeable increase in crowd size. All of a sudden, SoG seemed packed and there were people everywhere. I had also tried to change my Kona Cafe PS to a buffet for Sunday and everything was booked. So I think that this past Saturday saw a huge increase in crowds. I guess that was the day that ALL public schools were finally out. I know here in Virginia, our schools didn't let out until June 17th, so that probably explains the mass of people arriving.
Blizzard Beach was fun and we did as much as we could. Lines were long and it took my DH about 45 minutes to get to the top of Summit Plummet. It took us about 30 minutes to do the family raft. The other slides weren't quite as bad. The wave pool was jammed with people and rafts. When I went years ago, they didn't allow the rafts and "boats" and that was a good thing, I think.
We finished up by 3:00 p.m. and went back to the room to shower. We then drove over to the Poly. We were having our second rain shower
of the week and it is a LONG walk from the SoG.
The Kona Cafe never got busy. Right next door, 'Ohana looked like a disaster (I mean that in a 'good' way). People were just waiting and waiting to get in there. The Kona Cafe has the same kind of feel as Artist Point. Tiled floors, wood chairs, high ceilings, kind of noisy.
Our waitress was very good and friendly. She recommended the Beef Teriyaki as her favorite dish. I ordered this, my mom got the tenderloin, dad got the prime rib, and Dh got the salmon. We also got sticky wings and potstickers. The wings were just okay, potstickers were very good. My beef teriyaki was pretty tasty. My mom, who is not a big beef eater, really enjoyed her tenderloin. My DH said the salmon was pretty good but not any better than what we get at home at Carraba's. Dad liked his prime rib. The kids had grilled cheese, chicken finger, the usual.
Then desserts. The waitress said that her favorites were the Banana Caramel Creme Brulee and the Macadamia Nut Pie (which is a lot like Pecan Pie). I got the Creme Brulee and my dad got the nut pie. My mom got the Apple Brown Betty and my DH and the girls got the chocolate thing where the melted chocolate pours out. Since my son has a peanut allergy, the chef made him a special dessert of plain vanilla ice cream with sprinkles in a fancy glass. Around the bottom of the glass he put a whole bunch of blue cotton candy. It was really quite fancy looking and DS was very pleased.
Overall, this was our third place restaurant after Citrico's and Artist Point.
Right after dinner, I was feeling a littly "yucky" again but I trudged on. DH, my dad, DS, and I went over to Fantasia Mini-Golf. I have never done this and it was fun and NOT crowded at all. I kept hoping that moving around would help the way I was feeling but it didn't. I tossed and turned all night. When I got up, it was no better. Do you know how nerve wracking it is to feel that way knowing you have to get on a plane in a few hours? I will spare you the gory details but, truly, my body cannot take all that rich food.
We made it home in one piece. Again, Independence Air was OUTSTANDING. For some reason, though, once we landed it took 1 hour to get our bags. Not acceptable but what are you gonna do??
In summary, I have to say this was one of my best trips. The weather was hot but it was perfect. I hate rain while in an amusement park, so I lucked out in that regard. Except for feeling bad at the end, no one got sick, hurt, fought, cried, etc.
Also, before I left, I noticed there had been some threads on the community board about people/children's behavior in the parks. I was prepared for the worst, but really, everyone was great. I saw no temper tantrums, I did not get hit by one stroller. I did have a few people irritate me in line once or twice, but it was nothing major. I probably did my share of rude things and remember actually stepping in front of a stroller trying to keep my party of 7 together. Made sure I apologized.
I did my share of people watching on the last morning when I didn't feel well and I did see some AMAZING sights, but I'll keep those to myself or until a good debate comes up on the community board!!
Anyway, thanks for hanging in here with these long trip reports. Hope you enjoyed them.
