That scripture is such a challenge... such a daily decision. And it is so crucial!

I have a TRUE story for you all that took place this week...

My mother dropped and earring on the floor. She knew the earring was around but as much as she searched for it she couldn't find it! She was determined, though, to find it so she put off running the vacuum for the day and when she grew tired of looking she decided to wait and come back to the task later. She couldn't believe how much the missing earring annoyed her. She KNEW it just dropped on the floor and it HAD to be there somewhere. She became obsessed with finding it, but as hard as she tried to strain her eyes and look with a flashlight and feel around...she just wasn't able to find it.

Finally, she stopped searching and asked God, "Lord, what are You trying to teach me in this experience?" She waited. She thought about how hard she had searched and about how determined she was to find what was lost. She remembered, in the Bible, the story of the Woman and the Lost Coin. She remembered how the woman in the Bible was just as diligent and determined to find the coin. She remembered the story of the Lost Sheep and the Lost Son and God reminded her of how He had also waited and searched for HER when she was lost. God reminded her of His love for HER and His desperate act of selfless love...the death of His Son Jesus on the cross...to reunite her to Himself.

She heard God telling her that He wanted HER heart to be OBSESSED with seeking, finding and bringing home the lost.

She said, "Lord, I have heard your lesson. Now I'll get back to my searching." She still couldn't find the earring.

That night, she went to a prayer meeting where she saw a family member embrace another...her daughter-in-law who had been lost for years. For years, my mother and many others had been in prayer for the daughter-in-law. Though many people were heard to say, "She'll never change," my mother and her family were determined to pray and live out the truth in front of the lost woman in word and in deed. That night...My mother discovered that her daughter-in-law had acknowledged her need for Jesus and had taken the first step toward becoming a child of God. The embrace my mother had witnessed was a "Welcome Home" hug!

My mother went home that evening and went back to search for her earring. She cried as she realized that ..."There was more joy in heaven for the one lost soul who had found their way than for the 99 who had never left the fold." My mother lifted the carpet up in her room and shook it...the earring popped up from the carpet and she reached out and grabbed it! She knew JOY at that moment as God taught her ANEW how it feels to seek and find the lost. His mission has been her mission...His joy is now her joy. She trusted in His promise and power-He performed the work and and will be faithful to complete it.

This is our reason for living...
To glorify Him in all we say and do, because of all He has done for us and to allow Him to teach us, IN ALL THINGS, to love as He loves.
