A very dear friend sent this to me . . . Have a blessed day!

"When you come to the edge of all the light you have known
And are about to step out into the darkness,
FAITH is knowing one of two things will happen,
There will be something there for you to stand on,
Or you will be taught how to fly."

Dancing With God

When I meditated on the word Guidance,
I kept seeing "dance" at the end of the word.
I remember reading that doing God's will is a lot like dancing.
When two people try to lead, nothing feels right.
The movement doesn't flow with the music,
and everything is quite uncomfortable and jerky.
When one person realizes that, and lets the other lead,
both bodies begin to flow with the music.
One gives gentle cues, perhaps with a nudge to the back
or by pressing Lightly in one direction or another.
It's as if two become one body, moving beautifully.
The dance takes surrender, willingness,
and attentiveness from one person
and gentle guidance and skill from the other.
My eyes drew back to the word Guidance.
When I saw "G": I thought of God, followed by "u" and "i".
"God, "u" and "i" dance."
God, you, and I dance.
As I lowered my head, I became willing to trust
that I would get guidance about my life.
Once again, I became willing to let God lead.
My prayer for you today is that God's blessings
and mercies are upon you on this day and everyday.
May you abide in God, as God abides in you.
Dance together with God, trusting God to lead
and to guide you through each season of your life.

And I Hope You Dance !

I'm agnostic now, but I grew up Southern Baptist :) I've always loved (and still do) the old hymns such as What a Friend We Have in Jesus, Blessed Assurance, O, the Deep Deep Love of Jesus, and so many more.

How Great Thou Art

O Lord my God when I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made.
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power through out the universe displayed.

Chorus:
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!

When through the woods and forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur,
And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze.

And when I think that God His son not sparing,
Sent Him to die I scarce can take it in.
That on the cross my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.

When Christ shall come with shouts of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow in humble admiration,
And there proclaim, my God how great Thou art.

My Jesus, I Love Thee

My Jesus, I love Thee, I know Thou art mine;
For Thee all the follies of sin I resign.
My gracious Redeemer, my Savior art Thou;
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.

I love Thee because Thou has first loved me,
And purchased my pardon on Calvary’s tree.
I love Thee for wearing the thorns on Thy brow;
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.

I’ll love Thee in life, I will love Thee in death,
And praise Thee as long as Thou lendest me breath;
And say when the death dew lies cold on my brow,
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.

In mansions of glory and endless delight,
I’ll ever adore Thee in heaven so bright;
I’ll sing with the glittering crown on my brow;
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.

A Mighty Fortress Is Our God

A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing;
Our helper He, amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing:
For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe;
His craft and power are great, and, armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not his equal.

Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing;
Were not the right Man on our side, the Man of God’s own choosing:
Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is He;
Lord Sabaoth, His Name, from age to age the same,
And He must win the battle.

And though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us,
We will not fear, for God hath willed His truth to triumph through us:
The Prince of Darkness grim, we tremble not for him;
His rage we can endure, for lo, his doom is sure,
One little word shall fell him.

That word above all earthly powers, no thanks to them, abideth;
The Spirit and the gifts are ours through Him Who with us sideth:
Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also;
The body they may kill: God’s truth abideth still,
His kingdom is forever.

I thought of a couple of hymns that I wanted to add to my favorites!

Sweet Hour of Prayer

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
That calls me from a world of care,
And bids me at my Father’s throne
Make all my wants and wishes known.
In seasons of distress and grief,
My soul has often found relief
And oft escaped the tempter’s snare
By thy return, sweet hour of prayer!

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
The joys I feel, the bliss I share,
Of those whose anxious spirits burn
With strong desires for thy return!
With such I hasten to the place
Where God my Savior shows His face,
And gladly take my station there,
And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
Thy wings shall my petition bear
To Him whose truth and faithfulness
Engage the waiting soul to bless.
And since He bids me seek His face,
Believe His Word and trust His grace,
I’ll cast on Him my every care,
And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
May I thy consolation share,
Till, from Mount Pisgah’s lofty height,
I view my home and take my flight:
This robe of flesh I’ll drop and rise
To seize the everlasting prize;
And shout, while passing through the air,
“Farewell, farewell, sweet hour of prayer!”

This isn't the best vocal performance of the song, but the video footage is beautiful!

Holy, Holy, Holy

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty,
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee;
Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty,
God in three Persons, blessèd Trinity!

Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore Thee,
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
Cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee,
Who was, and is, and evermore shall be.

Holy, holy, holy! though the darkness hide Thee,
Though the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see;
Only Thou art holy; there is none beside Thee,
Perfect in power, in love, and purity.

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
All Thy works shall praise Thy Name, in earth, and sky, and sea;
Holy, holy, holy; merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessèd Trinity!

Hi, I'm new here, but all of the songs posted here are great, some really awesome lyrics. I brought some to contribute.

Through the Fire - The Crabb Family

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VP4OvUU-ZHU

So many times I've questioned certain circumstances
Or things I could not understand
Many times in trials, weakness blurs my vision
And my frustration gets so out of hand
But it's then I am reminded that I've never been forsaken
I've never had to stand one test alone
That's when I look at all the victories
And the spirit rises up in me
And it's through the fire my weakness is made strong

He never promised that the cross would not get heavy
And the hill would not be hard to climb
He never offered our victories without fighting
But He said help would always come in time
Just remember when you're standing in the valley of decision
And the adversary says give
Just hold on, our Lord will show up
And He will take you through the fire again

I know that within myself I would surely perish
But if I trust the hand of God, He'll shield the flames again, again

He never promised that the cross would not get heavy
And the hill would not be hard to climb
He never offered our victories without fighting
But He said help would always come in time
Just remember when you're standing in the valley of decision
And the adversary says give in
Just hold on, our Lord will show up
And He will take you through the fire again

I Am - Eddie James Ministries

(I posted this link in the thread about music in church, but it can't hurt to post it here, too. The video is from a youth conference in Tennessee we took our youth group to last month.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5E_twNO5xQ

I am the Lord, I'm the Almighty God
I am the One for whom nothing is too hard
I am the shepherd, I am the door
I am the Good News to the bound and the poor

I am

I am the righteous One, and I am the Lamb
I am the ram in the bush for Abraham
I am the ultimate sacrifice for sin
I am your Redeemer, the Beginning and the End

I am

I am Jehovah, and I am your King
I am Messiah, David's offspring
I am your High Priest, and the Christ
I am the resurrection, and I am the Light

I am

I am the bread, and I am the wine
I am your future, so leave your past behind
I am the One in the midst of two or three
I am your tabernacle, I am your jubilee

I am

I am hope, I am peace, I am joy, I am rest
I am your comfort, relief from your stress
I am strength, I am faith, I am love, I am power
I am your freedom this very hour

I am

OK. I am going to post one more. I am sorry that I am posting so many. There are just so many wonderful hymns. Then, this morning I heard this one. I was once again brought to me knees and reminded at how awesome my MIGHTY GOD is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Awesome In This Place

As I come into Your presence
Past the gates of praise
Into Your sanctuary
Til we're standing face to face
I look upon Your countenance
I see the glory of Your Holy face
I can only bow down and say...

You are awesome in this place, Mighty God
You are awesome in this place, Abba Father
You are worthy of all praise
To You our lives we raise
You are awesome in this place, Mighty God

Please don't apologize for posting all of these wonderful old hymns! They are so rarely sung in churches today. It saddens me that that those that are "new" to the church may never know these songs. The hymns are so full of truth and in many ways are "deeper" than the "worship" songs that churches are so enthralled with these days!

Thanks for the trip down memory lane! Keep singing everyone...

DH and I have been concerned about that very thing. We wanted to make sure that our DDs knew the hymns and the stories behind them. We have read them stories about the hymn writers and hymns. We have bought several hymn CDs so that we listen to them in the car and the girls can learn them.
I agree completely with you!

I love the old hymns also.

Love this version of It is well with my soul

It Is Well With My Soul - 4Him

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say,
It is well, it is well with my soul.

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed his own blood for my soul.

CHORUS:
It is well
With my soul
It is well
it is well
With my soul

My sin--oh, the bliss of this glorious thought:
My sin not in part, but the whole
Is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

And, Lord, haste the day when the faith shall be sight,
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll,
The trump shall re-sound and the Lord shall descend,
"Even, so," it is well with my soul.

CHORUS

Hi everyone! :wave:

One of our youth sang this song in church yesterday. I had never heard it before yesterday. DH and I both sat and cried as we listened! Before singing, the youth reminded the congregation of the story of Mephibosheth. He was crippled and cast aside, yet because of David's covenant with Jonathan, Mephibosheth was called to live and dine in the castle, at the king's table. She then related that story to us, christians; we are wounded and scarred because of our sin, yet because of Jesus and the new covenant, we are carried to the table! How awesome!!!!!!!!!

The song is beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope you all enjoy it as much as DH and I did!

Carried to the Table
By Leeland

Wounded and forsaken
I was shattered by the fall
Broken and forgotten
Feeling lost and all alone
Summoned by the King
Into the Master’s courts
Lifted by the Savior
And cradled in His arms

I was carried to the table
Seated where I don’t belong
Carried to the table
Swept away by His love
And I don’t see my brokenness anymore
When I’m seated at the table of the Lord
I’m carried to the table
The table of the Lord

Fighting thoughts of fear
And wondering why He called my name
Am I good enough to share this cup
This world has left me lame
Even in my weakness
The Savior called my name
In His Holy presence
I’m healed and unashamed

You carried me, my God
You carried me

Another hymn lover here! :wave2: I like old and new hymns too and choruses that have depth. That is why the Getty's stuff is so good...like modern rich hymns!

Cristy I love that 4him version of "It Is Well"! That whole album is awesome!

O The Deep Deep Love of Jesus

O the deep, deep love of Jesus!
Vast, unmeasured, boundless, free;
Rolling as a mighty ocean
In its fullness over me.
Underneath me, all around me,
Is the current of thy love;
Leading onward, leading homeward,
To thy glorious rest above.

O the deep, deep love of Jesus!
Spread his praise from shore to shore;
How he loveth, ever loveth,
Changeth never, nevermore;
How he watches o'er his loved ones,
Died to call them all his own;
How for them he intercedeth,
Watcheth o'er them from the throne.

O the deep, deep love of Jesus!
Love of ev'ry love the best:
'Tis an ocean vast of blessing,
'Tis a haven sweet of rest.
O the deep, deep love of Jesus!
'Tis a heav'n of heav'ns to me;
And it lifts me up to glory,
For it lifts me up to thee.

The Love of God

The love of God is greater far
Than tongue or pen can ever tell;
It goes beyond the highest star,
And reaches to the lowest hell;
The guilty pair, bowed down with care,
God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled,
And pardoned from his sin.

CHORUS
O love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure
The saints’ and angels’ song.

When years of time shall pass away,
And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall,
When men, who here refuse to pray,
On rocks and hills and mountains call,
God’s love so sure, shall still endure,
All measureless and strong;
Redeeming grace to Adam’s race
The saints’ and angels’ song.

CHORUS

Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade,
To write the love of God above,
Would drain the ocean dry.
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.
