What do you give for a baby boy's Christening gift? A co-worker of mine is having her son Christen on 10-19-08 and I don't know what to get him.:confused3

I will not be able to attend, but I still would like to get a gift.

Thanks

I always give money. I've always thought it odd when people give toys. Maybe thats just me.
I think it's also a time when parents start their childrens first bank accounts.

When my kids had their christenings, all the family gave money and friends gave either money or outfits.

We're Catholic, and 99.9% of the gifts are check or savings bond - the godparents or close family might give a religious item.

All of my kids got their 529's after the Christening. :thumbsup2

When my boys were baptized, most people gave them money or savings bonds. They also got a few outfits, and Noah's Ark type of stuff (we have a music box that my youngest received as a gift).

Halmark and Carlton Cards sell some really cute religious baby things. I always just pick up something there.

I was thinking about giving the baby money! I'm glad everyone agrees. I thought this way the money can be used for what ever she might need for him.

Here are some things my kids received.....
Fisher Price Noah's arc set (I thought that was a very creative gift)
Children's Bible
Several children's religious books
Christening picture frame
Personalized piggy bank
My aunt made each of my children a beautiful quilt
My dd received several pieces of jewelry
Money and saving bonds

I am sure they will appreciate whatever you chose.

I have an aunt that gives Johnson and Johnson stock shares to each new member of our family...

This is one of those things that differs geographically and by ethnic background, just like wedding gifts. Where I'm from Irish Catholics don't give money; we give religious tokens such as prayer books, bibles, religious jewelry, etc. Italian Catholics here *do* give monetary gifts, though.

We've always given money and in the card written something about putting it towards so and so's college fund.
