I'm glad you had a good trip.
My DS went through the snake thing from 4-5 y/o. He loved watching the Crocodile Hunter & Jeff Corwin on Animal Planet (does that still come on?). I wouldn't let him have the snake but did pacify him with a hamster for his 5th b'day. He had about 15 rubber snakes - rattlesnakes, Black Mombas, Corral Snakes, Rat Snakes, you name it. He would dress up in his Croc. Hunter costume and talk like Steve Irwin and tell us all about his rubber snakes, he knew which were venomous & which were not - he had the accent down and everything. It was hilarious. He asked if he found a snake could he keep it? I told him sure, he could keep it outside, but not in a cage, they don't like cages, he could feed it and if it stuck around - consider it his. He would go out in the backyard and woods looking, I was so scared that he might actually find one, fortunately he never did. His obsession has now passed. As much as I hated it, I do miss it now. Look into your local children's museum and science centers, they usually have snakes and they will let the kids rub them.
