Olympus Evolt 8.0MP SLR Digital Camera With Two Lens Kit (E500)
or
Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT 8.0MP SLR Digital Camera

I am doing a lot of shots in clubs, and looking for a good camera...

Out of these 2 which one is better overall...

They are roughlly same except with Olympus I am getting an extra lens...

Olymous is made in China and Canon in Japan...

Both are good cameras but since you say you shoot in clubs, I can only imagine less than great available light. If so the Canon is the way to go, pop on a 50mm 1.8 lens(<$100) and you are all set. I would skip the Kit lens that comes with the XT and use that towards the 50mm.

Hi monte0682 and welcome to the DIS :wave2:

Nice choice in cameras. I'd also plump for the Canon :)

....for low light purposes, compare reviews for the best high iso quality and low light focus ability. Then check prices on the low aperture lenses available for each. I am only familiar with the canon rebel XT kit lens and it needs much light to work well. Like f8-11, which even at 1600iso will have a pretty long shutter speed.

I'd get the Canon. With an SLR, you're buying into a system in which the body is just one part. You'll eventually be buying new bodies but you'll probably keep your lenses. If you get really interested in photography, you may also want specialized lenses. Canon has a much better selection of lenses and produces a better line of camera bodies. I think that for DSLRs Canon and Nikon are the best two options.

go with the olympus, you may shoot mostly in clubs but once you use the camera, you'll be using it everywhere and be very happy with the results.

I shot my daughters Dance recital with the e500 and 40-150 @ 1600 and 800 iso. Although there was nosie it was easlit removed.
