Hello. We are planning to visit Old Key West in May 2002. Since we have never been there, we would greatly appreciate any advice anyone might have on which buildings are in the most convenient locations. We will be traveling with our two small children, so ideally we'd like to stay in a building that is close to a bus stop and a pool. Thanks in advance for your help!

Just got back from MY first trip to OKW! You will love it. It is absolutely beautiful.

Now, I'm obviously no expert. There are others who will have lots of great advice for you. But I wanted to tell you that we were in building #35, and it worked o ut great. We were right across the street from a bus stop, and right around the corner from a nice pool that also has a good snack bar. We were very pleased with how it all worked out.

Have a marvelous trip. I'd like to turn right back around and go back! Now I'm hooked! ;)

OKW is laid out so that no buildings are far from a bus stop or a pool (most are within 200 yds of both).

Here is a link to a map of OKW. You can pretty well locate all of the buildings, bus stops and pools this way. Views are all either golf course, water (ponds, canal) or woods.
Pick an area and just request a range of buildings. We've spent over 30 weeks at OKW since it opened, have stayed all over the resort and can honestly say we've never been disappointed with any area.
Enjoy your trip and have fun planning! :)

I hate to say anything negative, but we stayed in Bldg. 45 last Oct and we will never stay there again. We thought it would be nice to try a room by the river, and while the room itself was nice the walk to the bus stop ( we had our choice of two equally far away) was horrible. The walk to the pool was even worse. Glad our kids were not around for that trip. We have stayed in many other bldgs at OKW and enjoyed all of them with this one exception.

Hope this helps, although it is an example of what not to do

I always request a room in bldg 23-26.....very near a bus stop(the first) and across the street/bridge from hosp house, main pool, boat trans etc. Also if you just happen to miss the bus you can boogie on over to the hosp house stop which is the last stop. Hope this helps.

We always request a building near Turtle Pond - Buildings 42, 43,44. It's a quiet area, with a pool and snack bar. We were quite surprised on our Dec '00 vacation to be in exactly the same room that we were in the previous vacation in May. It really was like being home :)

We just returned from our first visit as DVC members and stayed at the OKW. While I absolutly loved the place and plan on staying there again, we were in building # 11--I would definatley ask for another building not near the hospitality house. The parking was terrible as people coming to eat at Olivia's would take the parking right outside of Building 11 and the area. We had a terrible time when we needed to move the car. The CM's were aware of it but didn't seem to be able to do anything or offer any assistance.

Again just my opinion.

WDWDAD--I found your reply really interesting. Bldg 45 is our absolute favorite with Bldg 46 a close second!! You're right, of course that this building is not the closest to the bus stops or pool but we had our own car and didn't really swim that much. What we loved was the view of Trumbo Canal and the feeling of solitude looking at the woods across the canal. Isn't it great that OKW can satisfy the desires of so many of us who all enjoy different things?

We stayed in a studio Room 3210 on the end of the building 32 close to Turtle Pond Road. The roar of the buses going by on the road could be heard. It kept us awake until they stopped running, which was around 1 a.m. After one night, we decided to upgrade to a 1-bedroom and relocated to 3321. It was peaceful, quiet, wonderfully spacious, and had a nice view of a canal and the golf course. If I stay at OKW again, I'd want to be closer to the Hospitality House. It's a walk from Turtle Pond Road to there, so we hopped the Downtown Disney bus which stops at the Hosp. House both on its way into the resort and on its way out.

Actually, you can take any bus to get from your room to Hospitality House, since HH is always the last stop. Only the DD bus stops there first, so you have to get that one to go back to your room.

We always ask for building 55, 45 or 46. We love a view of the Trumbo Canal. Our favorite is #55, the farthest from everything, but it is close to the pool and bus stop.

Hi there!

We just got back from 8-nights at OKW and absolutely LOVED it!!! We stayed in Building 30 (room 3021) and thought the location was perfect... the balcony overlooked one of the smaller (quieter!) pools, the golfcourse, and lake. You could see the bridge near the Conch Flats area in the distance, and the Millers Road bus stop was VERY close. It was a very quiet area, which was a nice break from the hustle & bustle of the parks.

Although it was a bit of a pain hauling packages and 2 kids up to the third floor, the view was well worth it!!

We'd definitely request this building again!! Hope this helps! Enjoy your trip - wish I were going again soon!!

We also have stayed in both buildings 45 and 46 and enjoyed them. Again, like the other poster, we always have a car and never rely on busses and when we want to go to the pool we drive to either the main pool or another one close by. It is nice how there are buildings there that appeal to everyone. I have never had a bad room when I was at OKW but I will say that one time we did stay in building 50 and I was not too fond of that location. It was very close to Buena Vista drive, so much so when we were out on the balcony we could hear the traffic. Also, since it is at the end of a cul-de-sac you get the busses making their turn arounds right there in the parking lot. To each his own though, I am sure there are others who find something about building 50 very charming and pick that as a favorite. Either way it is the DVC and you will enjoy!
