can I just check please :-

First option is on deck 6

Second option is guarantee on deck 5 and 6


Same price

Is the only difference (apart from deck 5) that if we choose the guarantee option we might get better stateroom?

Unless I am misinterpreting, it is unlikely that you would be bumped up since this shows a specific room category (11b). This is because this is a GTY rated room and not an IGT rated room, where they would place you in any available inside room.

I wouldn't trust my judgement though.

You will be assigned an 11B or higher if you choose the guarantee state room. You're most likely to receive an 11B, so if you would not be happy with that, then you should choose a category where you do you get to choose your own stateroom.

There is no real rhyme or reason as to who or why people get upgraded cabins. Pick the cabin category you would happy with.

The difference is that you get to choose your stateroom in the first option, and that DCL will choose your stateroom in the second option. Yes, you could get an upgrade, but a significant upgrade (such as to an oceanview cabin) is unlikely to happen on DCL. Maybe a 10% chance?

I suppose it is to give you a choice, depending on what type of person you are.

One way, you are guaranteed a certain room, no better, no worse.
The other way, you might get a "better" room, or you might get the last room in that category that no one picked.

So you have to ask yourself, "Do I feel lucky?"

Why should one be cheaper? You'll be getting the same category & quality of room in either case (unless you happen to be lucky & get an upgrade, which is unlikely).

The GTY option gives you a slight advantage in terms of possibly getting an upgrade, and it gives DCL an advantage in being able to fill staterooms without the customer's preference being an issue. However, it's a drawback for the customer to not choose his stateroom, because there's also the chance that it will be in a location you don't care for.

So there is no clear-cut one-sided advantage or disadvantage to base a price difference on.
