Chlorine in pools and discolored swimsuits??

Has anyone ever had any trouble with any of the resort pools being SO chlorinated that it discolored your swimsuits? That happened to DD's swimsuit last year at the YMCA pool. I am trying to decide which suit to pack in case the resort pools are the same way. I am glad they use alot of chlorine to keep the pools clean, I just want to make sure we pack the right suits!

I get my older dd's suits at Justice and I haven't had a problem. But my mom went to TL and my niece's faded bad. We went to TL and had no problems. I pack like 3 swimsuits each since I hate wet ones for 10 days.

I have never experienced an over cholorinated pool at Disney. I believe they use different filtration systems at most of the resorts.

We've never had a problem with fading, and we've stayed at Pop, ASMu, CSR, POR, POFQ, WL, and YC, and we've gone to both waterparks. I do bring Woolite and wash the suits every day in the sink.

Swim suit manufacturers recommend rinsing out your suits each time you wear them.

I have not had any problems with DD9's suit or my own. We have stayed at POP, Poly, GF and no issues.

I bought DD one last year at Justice and her summer camp went swimming 2-3 times a week. She loved that bathing suit but by the middle of summer her white and pink striped suit looked yellow and pink Never had a problem with the pools on vacation though, it is a good idea to rinse them out every day though. This year DD has 3 different suits to switch between and the baby has 2

It's been my experience that some suits fade faster than others, but eventually they will all succumb to the chlorine. You're swimming in bleach. Pools that have high traffic in them also tend to have a lot of ammonia (especially if they're under chlorinated) and those are the pools that will eat your suit off you in just a few swims. And something I learned from my life guard training, if a pool smells like chlorine it probably does not have enough free chlorine, and free chlorine is what it needs to keep the water clean.

But if Disney uses a different system it's all irrelevant anyway. Anyone know for sure what they use? The pools I've used on property have seemed very well maintained, and I'm picky about my pools.

I rinsed out my swimsuit that I had at AKL and it faded into a yellow color. It was a really hideous color, and I even rinsed out the suit after each use. I am not quite sure what happened. I got the swimsuit from T.J maxx. Last time at the polynesian I was fine nothing happened.

the chlorine and hot FL sun fades our suits, as well. We now do NOT take our new suits to FL in the summer.

I've had the same black suit for two years now, (from Kohls) and it still looks new. The pools at WDW don't use chlorine, and I keep my black suit out of pools that do use it.

It helps any way to rinse out your suit before hanging it to dry.

some materials are more resistant to chlorine than others. Plus if you lay in the sun, that can also discolor your clothes.

basically you are swimming in bleach water to kill all manner of biological contaminants.

The water parks are probably a bigger problem because you can spend hours being wet. When we go to Downtown Disney and they stop at Typhoon Lagoon first, when the people get on a big wave of chlorine smell comes with them.

I believe they all use some kind of chlorine, the only alternative would be ozone but I'm not sure how good that would work in swimming pools.

I have a black Mickey tankini that I bought at least three years ago at Disney and I wear it practically every weekend here during pool season and it still hasn't faded! I did buy a suit for my DD 16 at JCPenneys and that one faded real fast. I think it has more to do with the actual bathing suit than with the pool water.

We usually spend about 14 days and swim and go to the water parks every day and our swimsuits are just about ruined by fading or stretching by the end of the trip (but it's worth it!)

To my knowledge - Disney does not use chlorine at any of the resort pools. They use another chemical.

We have been to Disney resorts at least twice each year. We have never experienced fading suits from Disney's pools.

No we never have. My daughter is a competitive swimmer and is in the pool 2hrs. everyday. To preserve her practice suits we do rinse them throughly in the sink immediately after each use. Hopefully that helps.
