I have never went over Christmas due to the crowds and the fact as a teacher my weeks are limited. I am curious when the Christmas rush ends and it gets to be a little less busy? For instance, this year I could afford to take off the first 2 days back (Jan. 5th and 6th). As I am in Canada, the 6th would have to be for travelling, maybe a morning at the park. Is it busy right through till the 4th? as that is the New Years week? Any ideas would help me get some ideas of a surprise visit for my wife and kids!!!

I always assumed that people cleared out after New Year's Day -- not everyone, of course, but many of them. However, many DIS'ers told me that it is still quite busy even after New Year's Day.

My feeling is that, because New Years Day is late in the week this year -- on a Thursday -- lots of people will be off of work that entire week, and will be in the parks all weekend.

I think that a lot of kids won't go back to school until after January 5th or 6th, and the Three Kings Day celebration should be taking place at DLR over the weekend/timeframe of 1/2-1/6, so that will increase crowds.

The holiday season appears to be ending on Tuesday, 1/6/15.

As Sherry noted, the holiday season appears to be ending on Tuesday (1/6). It is worth noting that the SoCal and SoCal Select blockout ends on the 4th and 5th (respectively) and some of the local schools may be out for the entire week after New Year, so it wouldn't surprise me if there were fairly high crowds on Sun, Mon, and Tues as the SoCal and SoCal Select AP holders return to the parks to the see the holiday decor and attractions one last time.

We were at DL in 2014 for this time frame (fellow Canucks also :cheer2:) and found the crowds busy the 3-7 and then it slowed down. It was anywhere from 15-45 minutes average for most rides, more for the big tickets like SPlash, RSR, Matterhorn. But a lovley time to go. The weather was nice, the X mas decorations are amazing.
