I seen a chipmunk in the yard yesterday and told dw and she was like awwww...
Is this guy gonna tear things up in my yard?
Need some advice here...

Chipmunks are Public Enemy Number 2 at our house! Moles being PBE #1! They are very destructive. Cute, ok, maybe but destructive. They have chewed on the privacy fencing around the patio and the foundation under our whiskey barrel fountain. And they multiply!

I really thought the neighbors cats that use our back yard as a sidewalk between their residences wouold scare them off but no luck so far.

When we first moved into our house 8 years ago with no flower beds I thought they were the cutest things to see running around the lawn. Now that I have transformed that lawn into about 8 perrenial beds I don't think the are so cute anymore. They have eaten many a bulb and roots of my plants. One year I lost about $300 worth of hosta I cried. Then one day I was out in the yard and a plant started moving up and down and poof down under the ground the plant went.

If any one knows how to get rid of these pest let me know. Of course we have a stone wall around our property and they just love those.

These things are gonna eat my bulbs???
Sorry buddy, but you're going down..

I consider them cute little visitors to the yard. However, I was about 13 years old when we last lived in a climate that chipmunks thrived in (MA). ;) I sure hope they aren't destructive little creatures.

Moles, on the other hand....they might be right up there next to grasshoppers in my book! ;) They did a number on our yard in Maryland. Haven't seen too many of them in Florida yet (phew!)

I read that someone said to put a stick of juicy fruit gum in any chipmunk hole that you can find. I can't remember where I read that (was it on the DIS?) You might want to try that! I guess they are repulsed by the smell?

My sister had one in her garage. It chewed through the sensors of her garage door opener. Didn't make her too happy.
We have one that has tunneled through our neighbor's yard, under our yard and under the street to the yard across from us. So far there hasn't been any noticeable destruction above ground but I'd just soon get rid of it. My neighbor's call it "Chip" and think it's cute.

We have them all over the place. I also have 2 golden retrievers that hate them. I have never figured it out. A squirrel can walk past my older golden and he doesn't even notice. If a chipmunk is anywhere in the lawn the old boy chases after it like it's public enemy number 1. Of course, he then comes in, lies in front of the air conditioner vents, and takes a 2 hour nap. The pup goes after both squirrels and chipmunks.
