We go to DL next week!!! The kids haven't been too into seeing the characters this time :sad1: so I asked them who was the one or two that were worth a wait in line and we would mostly skip the others. Hands down, "Chip N Dale" without hesitation!!!!!

Our kids are 11, 9, and 6--is the character breakfast worth the $$? It used to be when there was that sense of awe and magical moments that were worth their weight in gold, but we wouldn't get that this time........DD11 will act too cool, DD9 will observe this and try to follow suit, but may not be able to help herself, and DS6 will enjoy whatever we do, no meal needed.

OR is there a place to catch these characters in the parks? AND what other characters are usually there at the breakfast?

I need to book this like, yesterday, if we're going to do it....what do you think?

If you want to see Chip and Dale, get in BEFORE 10:30. They leave at that point, so you have to be in ahead of that time. Also they stop serving from the menu at 11:30, and go only to buffet.

Since we had an 11:30 PS, we saw Koda and Kenai, Meeko (raccoon from Pocahontas?) and, augh, I can't remember the name again...the odd makeup wearing gorilla from, I believe, Tarzan.

I thought the food was good, and they had veggie sausage which made this vegetarian family happy. :)

It's also very pretty in there, so I recommend it just for that.

You can see chip and dale all over DCA, we run into them each time we're at DCA. Koda and Kenai, I believe, are on the "train" across from Grizzly River Run (forgive me, I can't remember any names tonight!). I don't know about the other characters we saw, though.

I was wondering this as well. DD loves Chip N Dale. I know she would love to go, to "see" them. I dont know if she would want to "meet" though.

Do you think that Lilo would be better or Chip N Dale? We did the Lilo breakfast last time, it was good. We got there early so it was pretty empty then.

Those are the two we've done! :)

They are both upbeat, with fun things to do. Lilo (the name of the meal, not the actual character) had little dancey things to do over in a corner of the restaurant, and got the kids on their feet.

Chip and Dale (again, not the characters...we didn't see them since we were there an hour after they left for their other obligations) had a similar thing with Koda and Kenai and a park ranger. i was getting food when it happened, but it seemed to be some sort of follow the leader thing. The kids in the pictures DH took looked very happy, especially my son since he was holding hands with a bear and the park ranger.

Storyteller's is much prettier than PCH Grill, though also a bit darker.

You can see Koda and Kenai at the Brother Bear ceremony in DCA as well.

We went to Lilo's two weeks ago and had Lilo, Stitch, Minnie, Daisy and Pluto.

We saw 35 characters in the parks (including character meals but not parades) over the course of four days.

We really enjoyed Chip and Dale and I even had 2 teenagers with me. The characters were very interactive. Without a doubt you get better one on one time at the charater meals. There may not bee the same sense of AWE as when your older ones could be fooled by the magic but it is still fun. I think my son enjoys seeing my little one still wrapped up in the magic. We saw the same characters as bumbershoot. (The the odd makeup wearing gorilla is actually Rafiki from Lion King) The food was very good. If you go early try the Banana pancakes. YUMMY! This was one of the better character meals IMHO because it was much more relaxed than some of the others.

You can catch Chip and Dale in the DL park. I have seen them in the back wandering in Toontown and also in the front in the main entry. Kinda hit and miss as to what time. I was told at one time you could get a list at City Hall that would tell when and where characters would be appearing throughout the day. However, when I asked for one the cm looked at me like I was from another planet because he had "never heard of a list."

PrincessKell, if your DD liked Lilo she would probably like Chip and Dale. They are pretty close to the same quality, with Lilo being just a bit livelier. Just the wear on your feet from having to walk so far back to PP is worth giving Storytellers a try! It is a LONG way back there to PP... well, unless you are already staying there.

You've already gotten some great advice. I haven't tried Storyteller's but we do Goofy's Kitchen all the time. We have seen Chip n Dale there but not all the time. We've done Lilo's and didn't care for it. It didn't measure up to Goofy's.

But I wanted to comment on your 11 yr old. My 12 yr old is too cool for most family stuff. But when it comes to character meals, he is right there in the thick of it with the other kids. Your may drop his guard when he sees all the fun going on.

Thanks guys! We don't have tickets for the park on the Mon that we leave. This may be a great farewell for us!!!

I agree with got2travel. My son is 13 and at home you would not see him lining up to have his picture taken with a guy in a furry costume! But at Disneyland and WDW, he is into the spirit and just enjoys himself immensely. That is one of the things I love about our Disney trips, my kids aren't tweens and teens anymore!

I love Storytellers, its a lovely atmosphere, the buffet is wonderful and they also let you order off the regular menu if you prefer. This is probably one of the few character meals at WDW or DL that I would go to solely for the food. It was amazing and the GCH is an attraction in itself.

If you don't do this, Chip and Dale can be found quite easily for the most part in both parks. But I think character meals are fun, albeit very high priced fun!

I see Chip and Dale every time I go into DL right in the opening. They're always hanging around for photos and stuff. I wanted to share a pic of the first time my son saw them:

Looked it up last night, and the gorilla we saw was Terk. We didn't even know that until someone here told us, but I had forgotten in the intervening weeks. :)

Storyteller's is our favorite restaurant at DLR. I just love the atmosphere. We went to the character breakfast and dd (14 months at the time) loved the character interaction.

Darling Pictures!!! That's what my kids love about Chip N Dale, they play around with them!!

Can anyone give me a review of the regular menu (not the buffet) for the breakfast?

Can anyone give me a review of the regular menu (not the buffet) for the breakfast?

I wish I could, but disney dining didn't know that they stop serving from the menu at 11:30, so I didn't get to try the huevos rancheros as I planned for a month. sniffle.

Anyway, if you look at dlresortinfo, at the Grand Californian menu page, look under the Character dining, to:

Casual Dining

Storyteller's Cafe
Breakfast 10/07

It's kind of silly that it's separated from character dining, b/c you're in the same restaurant and interact just the same, but I guess having it separated like that makes some sort of sense. :)

it's not a review, but it's the menu!

Oh, and DH had an omelette made at Storyteller's (at PCH Grill, too), and he loved it. They barely looked at him funny when ordering a jalapeno omelete, and he enjoyed it very much. So I would assume the omeletes on the menu are good, too.

I'd go for it. The food is actually really good. It is not over the top like some character breakfasts. Instead, it almost felt homey. The best pics of our family from our trip to DL last year are with Chip. There is something ab out posing with a chipmunk that brings the best out in people.

Ok you guys are tempting me now , my boys have requested Goofy's kitchen again , but this sounds good too! By the way my DS11 is very grown up , a bit too much , but at DL he is a kid.........so happy , it's the best.
