Has anyone ever attended the Chip-n-Dale campfire singalong? We're going in May 2014 & thinking of booking it after Whispering Canyon Cafe. I figured we could swim at VWL for a little bit after dinner, if we aren't too full, before heading to Fort Wilderness. We don't normally have a full day off so we'd probably head to MK that morning. We'll be staying at BL & the other half of our party will be at VWL. Thoughts??

I went to this for the first time last year. It was awesome and we plan on doing it for each trip. It is a very relaxing time, letting the kids play, playing BINGO with Chip and Dale, pitures and watching a movie. We watched Tangled. Met new friends. Both my kids loved it! You do not have to make reservations; however, I would make sure you have time. It takes a while to get there and then to leave again. You can bring your own smores kits or you can buy what they have there.

How does one get there? Bus? where do you get off? is it a long walk? Do you have to stay at the resort?

You can get to the campgrounds via a ferry from MK also some other resorts have a boat that goes there too. I don't know which ones though. You could take a bus but you would have to go to DTD and transfer to the fort bus. If you take the bus you get off at the front and would get on a fort bus that takes you to the location for the campfire. Same with the boat. Or you can be adventurous and walk. No you don't have to stay at the campgrounds to participate.

FORT WILDERNESS CAMPFIRE: (open to all)

1) Location:
. . . within the Fort Wilderness Campgrounds
. . . near Meadows Trading Post, behind swimming pool area
2) Transportation to Fort Wilderness
. . . car to Fort Wilderness parking lot
. . . bus to Fort Wilderness from almost anywhere inside WDW
. . . boat to FW from Magic Kingdom or Wilderness Lodge Resort
. . . monorail to Contemporary Resort, then boat to FW
. . . most resorts have a separate bus to Fort Wilderness after 5:00pm
4) Transportation to Campfire
. . . take internal bus and ask for Campfire bus stop
5) Time
. . . spring and summer months - 8:00pm start time
. . . fall and winter months - 7:00pm start time
. . . every night of the year, weather permitting

. . . sing-along in front of screen, usually with a solo guitarist (appox 40-min)
. . . animated or live action outdoor Disney film (approx 1½-hrs)

. . . bring a light jacket, as it can get cool after sunset
. . . seating is on benches and bleachers, so a pad is nice comfort
. . . there are grassy areas to bring a blanket and sit on the ground
. . . better yet, bring folding chairs
. . . fortunately, they do not grade you on your voice during the sing-along
. . . there is no dress code

. . . for rain, they move the sing-along, but you will still get wet

NOTE: We find this to be a really great activity for either the first night at
WDW, or the last night before going home. Good time for family bonding, and
nice to veg-out.

Thanks for the responses. Looking forward to doing some different things this trip as first time at WDW as parents!!! :)

So this is something that's only avaliable for wide on site resort guests?

no a WDW guest can also be considered someone who is staying off-site ( or lives locally for that matter) your considered a guest when you visit Just as if you can go to a resort for a meal and not even go to the parks If you can go it's a lot of fun If arriving by car, the security host/hostess at the kiosk to FW entrance will tell you where you can park & tell you where the bus is to get there

We're planning on doing this in late September after Mickey's Backyard BBQ, which we have a 6:30pm ADR for. Will that timing work out? How long does it take to get from the BBQ to the campfire area?

I don't think so you can be hours at Mickeys BBQ

No booking, just head on over. We have done it a couple of times and try to fit it in, if possible. Was awesome for younger ones. With mine 13 and almost 11, not sure if they'll be willing to give up park time. The event is a lot of fun and of course you'll need to buy the smore's kits.:thumbsup2

This is a check in day tradition for us. We stay at FW for our week-long trips and always attend the Saturday evening of check in. Very special memories for us of the campfire singalong. Our first WDW trip was in Oct 2008, we got set up and checked out the campground. Went to the singalong. Were the first ones there. CM chatted us up, then asked DD (she was 4 at the time) if she wanted to escort Chip n Dale down the aisle from where they come out in the back of the little arena to the front where they do the singalong. It was the "Year Of A Million Dreams" and we got this as part of the YOMD promotion. Got the certificate and everything. It was our first Disney experience, our first character interaction.....and it was magical. I'm tearing up just thinking about it now. I have the sweetest picture of DD in between Chip n Dale, each holding her hand as they led myself and DH down to our front row seat that they saved for us.
That being said, I don't know if it's a sentimental favorite or if we just love it but we will never miss one!
Bring money for smores!! :)

I've wanted to do this many times but always run out of time.. I will have to make time in future! Sounds fun!

I'm not a big fan of s'mores, but really like toasted marshmallows. Can I bring my own marshmallows to toast? Do I have to bring some sticks too?
