I have a few questions about the C&D race for 2013. I know it was new in 2012 so maybe my questions can't be answered yet.

My DD who will be 14 for the race next year wants to run this race with me. My DH will be running the full and coaching us and cheering us on.

Questions: Can spectators go with the 2nd runner to the 1/2 way point? My DD's GM would like to go and be with her until (if) I make it to the 1/2 way pt.

What happens to the 2nd runner if the 1st can't finish their race due to pacing or accident/illness? Do they still get to run and get their medal?

I know I'll have more questions as we work toward this goal.

DW emailed Run Disney and yesterday's reply was that as of now no 2012 W&D Relay or 2013 C&D Relay.

Say it ain't so!!!! :( :( :(

When I read yesterday that there was going to be no relay for W&D, I figured that didn't bode well for C&D... but I was holding out hope. I wanted to be a C&D legacy runner... and I LOVED the Leg2 course. What a bummer!

Sign ups usually start in March sometime.

Anyone have answers to my questions?

I'll answer your questions, but the point made by other posters is that the relay may not happen next year--it may have been one and done (this is not new news)....

Yes, someone could go with your daughter to the staging area for the second runner. It was in the MK Parking lot (old Pluto section--don't recall the new Villains name). It is possible to walk from either Poly or TTC to get there.

Second runner can go regardless. At some point (and it wasn't handled very clearly from feedback), the second runners can start.

The relay had its share of issues, and betting money is that it won't come back. Too bad. I did the first half this year, and it was enjoyable. And the person I did the second half with was glad to be able to do the back end of the marathon course.

Thanks for the info Maura, that is what I was looking for.

it really doesn't matter to my daughter if Disney does the C&D again. She was looking forward to do a half and running with her dad. There are a TON of other races in Central FL so if not Disney then someone else's. (it will also be a lot cheaper!)

I was :sad1: that the Chip and Dale was not coming back. The only good thing was that I would save a lot of money by not going to WDW next January. But yesterday I was going trough the April issue of Runner's World and saw the advertisement for the 2013 wdw marathon week-end and it is written that there will be a marathon relay. So now I am :yay:. And i will begin to save my money and find a partner.

Official word on FB (so it must be true;)), is that it's not coming back for 2013, but maybe 2014. Next year is 20th anniversary for marathon so that may be the reason. A lot of people have noticed the discrepancy in the ad. We probably won't know for certain until registration opens next month

runDisney confirmed through the @DisneySports twitter that C&D will NOT be returning in 2013. Also they confirmed that Wine&Dine relay is cancelled for the 2012 year.

So I guess that is that. We'll be looking at some 1/2's in Orlando and nearby then. At least we won't have to get up at 3 am to do one in Orlando!

There are a lot of awesome races in the Central FL area. I am really looking forward to trying some of them out after I move down that way in June.

This might be a moot addition since others have said it won't run next year and the relay isn't even listed on the runDisney marathon page any longer, but Disney treats each runner as if they're running their own races. I did not finish the first half due to serious illness, but my second half was able to start when I pulled off the course and went to the med tent. She still got her medal and everything.

If you are interested in just running a half, there's a half marathon at Disney that weekend as well. It's the day before the full, so you and your daughter could run at the same time.

Disney races might be steep cost-wise, but they're some of the better events I've run. Not only are they organized and start on time, but they're the most fun I've ever had running distance despite longer areas without spectators. The people running alongside you are wonderful, and the costumes are top-notch. Plus most of the bigger events are in the same price range (and you're still expected to wake up at 3 am but they don't always provide transportation for you like Disney does), so Disney might be worth considering.

Well, I guess I am back to plan 1 :sad1: and will save a lot of money by not going to WDW in 2013. I just don't know why the put the marathon relay as a race on their advertisement in Runner'a World. I am pretty down about it.

The ads are done months in advance. And most of the time there's a "subject to change or cancellation" clause in the fine print. Wine and Dine had a date (actually ToT date) announced and then it was changed, so pretty much until registration opens up, things are subject to change date and event-wise.

Even after registration opens details can change. The changed the Princess course well after registration opened the first year.

Oh course I can understand. But once registration has opened I'd think the dates themselves would be set - or they'd have to offer refunds to people who registered but couldn't make the new dates I'd think.

My DS17 will be really disappointed~ I didn't want to say anything to him until it was confirmed. He's run 3 Disney 1/2 marathons and REALLY wants to run a full marathon next year in January but will be less than 2 weeks shy of his 18th birthday. His consolation was to run the 1/2 on Saturday and the C&D Relay on Sunday. :sad2:

I definitely would hope that they don't change dates after public registration opens. I do know that people who had deferred to Wine&Dine were already registered for the race before the changed the dates.

I'm really hoping it will come back for 2014. I understand not having it in 2013 because of the 20th anniversary and them expecting large crowds, which by looking at posts here and on fb it is a pretty accurate assumption.

I missed this year due to getting a new job. I was hired 2 weeks before marathon weekend and we had to drive down not knowing if we could even go at all (airfare was beyond expensive with that late of notice), and literally had to leave as soon as we were finished with the 1/2 to head home as it's a 2 day drive. :headache:

So I really am hoping for it to return in 2014....
