Are any of you a Chinese Shar-Pei Breeder? or Does anyone know a chinese shar-pei breeder? or do any of you have a link to a list of credible breeders? Please this is very urgent. I know this may seem like a weird thread but theres a purpose for it.

google?:confused3 Can I ask why it's "urgent" that you find a breeder?

I own two Shar-Pei. Do you have a question about them?

My breeder is no longer breeding.

my father wants to give away our 8 year old shar pei because she got out and attacked some sheep...I want to aska breeder if they know if an 8 year old shar-pei will have a bad reaction to suddenly living in a strange place with unknown humans and no other dogs.....Im trying to find credible reasons as to why we should keep her...I only have until saturday :(

has she been agressive towards other animals before? my cousin has a mix and she's a very good guard dog....the vet told her it's her shar pei side....is there any way you can make sure she doesn't get out again?

This is the link to the official rescue section of the national breed organization. I don't know what state you're in but there's people listed from throughout the country. They're trained in how to handle "emergency" situations such as your own.

I have had and trained many other breeds of dogs, but never sharpei. I DO know that any dog, when stressed by a move/change in ordinary surroundings can revert and act out.

According to the "temperament" section of their website,
"Regal, alert, intelligent, dignified, lordly, scowling, sober and snobbish essentially independent and somewhat standoffish with strangers, but extreme in his devotion to his family. The Shar-Pei stands firmly on the ground with a calm, confident stature.

The Chinese Shar-Pei may be aloof with strangers."

I would guess from this that they are one of the "guard" breeds, and the dog may have been confused from the move and possibly seen the sheep as a threat to his family/home. I've trained Chows and Akitas, and can picture this possibly happening with one of them.

Good luck, and please seek professional help.

Terri

You might be better off talking to a dog trainer instead. See if there is someone in your area that can help you. I'd google Animal Behaviorist, Animal trainer, dog trainer.

Shar Pei are very intelligent and can be aggressive. Remember, they were bread as fighting dogs for the Chinese Emperors way back when.

My female is as gentle as they come. She loves everyone and wouldn't hurt a flea. But, she's got a bark that means business. My male is another story. I don't like to refer to him as agressive, but he does not like other dogs at all. (Other than his sister.) He also takes time to warm up to strangers. I have to tell new people in my home to just ignore him until he gets used to you. Then he's all love.

Go the animal trainer route. I think you'll get a better answer.

Good luck.

P.S. They are named Mulan and Mushu!

my mom said no to the training :(

I'm sorry. Has your dog ever been agressive towards other animals or people before? How about a kennel? Maybe you could tell her it would be very hard to find her a new home at her age?

Asking a trainer your question would yield a better result. Also, keep in mind, that at 8, your shar pei is considered old. Most don't live past 10.

If you must give him up, please give him/her up to a shar pei rescue. They will be able to handle him/her and make sure they are put in the most beneficial environment.

Again, good luck.
