China Disneyland

Interesting. Wonder what's going on with it now, since it's been a year since the updated article?

Wonder if the gov't realized that "oops, we should keep Disney happy since we've got that official place in Hong Kong"....:goodvibes

I read a trip report elsewhere; there's an amusement park in the Philippines that blatantly (and cheaply) rips off Disney stuff and rides and characters as well. :upsidedow

I was just in the Philippines for work and thought about going to Enchanted Kingdom, but went to Ocean Park instead, perhaps next time I will go and then I will let you know if they indeed do rip off Disney (judging by their website, I am going to have to say that they don't at the moment, instead it appears that they get attractions that have been removed from other parks, for example Pirates 4-D, which used to be at Sea World)

Why would they need to copy/use Disney characters.. when they have a Disneyland in Hong Kong. Leave it to China to counterfeit everything and rename it, right? After reading that article, I got mad. It's ridiculous how arrogant some people can be when the evidence is SO obvious. :sad2:

I hope they do something about this.
Sorry to be negative about it though, it just made me go :scared1:

I went to find the trip report, on another site, and it's actually Star City in
Manila.

Report is well more than half way down this page.

disneyL0VE, remember that China is huge, and I think it was only 11 years ago that they got HK back, but according to wikipedia they will have their own version of autonomous gov't for another 40 years. I looked it up, and the distance between Beijing and HK is 1231 Miles. Hubby, who tends to know a little about those areas, says that while people can travel domestically where they want once paperwork is filled out, going to HK might not be allowed, since it would be easier to leave from there, or never go back home.

This isn't China, but it's also not a communist country...but hubby's Korean aunt and uncle were forbidden from visiting their sister in the US for 3 years. They applied each year to visit, and each year were denied permission to leave their country b/c of their work. They finally got to come, and stayed for a whole summer, since they didn't know if they would get permission in the future! If a non-communist country like Korea is that strict with their people, I can only imagine that a normal person from Beijing might not be able to go to HK easily or ever.

I don't know, though, hubby hasn't been to HK in many many years, since before it went back under China's wing, and hasn't been in china for a long time either, so he could be wrong, but with hubby's perspective, this sort of thing doesn't enrage me much at all.

Just for the record, bumbershoot, wikipedia isn't exactly a reliable source of information on anything... :P Some friends of mine got bored one night a posted an article about another friend that they claimed cured cancer and saved the world from the dinosaurs in 1992. Not to mention if any of us students even think the W word (Wiki) our professors threaten us with death by firing squad.

Thanks, OP. :goodvibes

Nara Dreamland was another blatant Disneyland rip-off.

It was built in Nara, Japan, and was open from 1961 to 2006.

They copied the Main Street train station, and they built a Main Street and a castle. The "Matterhorn" with the skyway going through it is too funny, and you gotta love the "Adventure Jungle Cruise." :earsboy:

There are some photos in this trip report. Seeing is believing! :earsboy:

How disappointing. I guess though, the people there deserve to have some fun themselves. Its just robbery though. I'm grossed out a bit because the one in China & the Philippines looks so poorly done.

That is just hilarious! Do they really think someone just isn't going to realize that their park looks EXACTLY like Disneyland? And I love the random wood coaster...lol. Thank you for sharing :D

I've been to Nara, Japan!! :lmao: I don't remember the train station and other stuff, but the deer at the park scared me to death! :scared1: And I was 21 or 22. Some of them were taller than I am (although that's not very tall :confused3 )!

Apparently I went to another place in Nara, Japan!! That was crazy stuff. We were at a Deer park where the deer practically eat you they are so domesticated. They know you must be hiding some more of those yummy crackers in your jacket!!
