China April 2012 - Booked!

We're booked!!! Kevin booked us today. I guess we'll be joining Margie100 on this trip. So much to do now ... we have to renew our passports first...they expire too soon after the trip.

Gotta find a hotel in Hong Kong to stay a few days after the tour .... one that's a tad cheaper. LOL

The point of no return has passed ... we paid the trip off yesterday. Passports have been renewed (they were going to expire 2 months after the end of the trip), airfare has been booked and now all we have to do (LOL .. "all"...) is get our visas and find a hotel in Hong Kong for the extra days we plan on staying.

I think my parents are very much looking forward to this tour (although, probably not the long flight) but I also think they think I hoodwinked them into taking the ABD when they could have taken a cheaper tour. Now... it didn't take me long to "hoodwink" them (and they love the Disney cruises too) so I think that part of them wanted to be hookwinked into a Disney tour but still if ABD doesn't deliver, I'm in the proverbial dog house!! Those panda bears better be especially cute in Chengdu (how can they not be!!??)

Here's to a Happy New Year to everybody and to a new year of travelling experiences!

This trip is a dream for me in the future. I adopted my amazing daughter from China 2 years ago and we'll return for a homeland tour someday. What better way to do it then with ABD?

It's good to know that you can add days before/after the trip. I want to take her back to the province she was born in and then would love to add HKD to the end.

Years to plan....and dream!

Do you know what airlines ABD used for the domestic China flights? I asked ABD what the baggage restrictions were and they told me 11 lbs for carry on and 44 lbs for a checked bag. The 11 lbs for carry on threw me ... my camera equipment weighs a heck lot more than that .... so I'm not sure what to do.

As much as you would like to think that it is, I am pretty sure that vacation days are not required in the USA. No boss is required to grant vacation for any reason. Not that I agree but being a boss I understand not wanting to have your employees out for an extended period of time....like over 2 weeks at a shot...especially depending on the business and the job.

We're not in the USA though.

And while it may be true in some cases where a boss is not required to grant vacation for any reason, we are entitled to vacation due to contracts, collective agreements etc. It certainly does no good if everybody has to take the last month of the year off because the boss hasn't granted any vacation to anybody for the past year...

In any case, this is a moot point with us.... his boss actually granted him the vacation before mine did. LOL We're all good now ....

Today we booked (thanks Kevin!) the 4/1/2012 Enchanted China trip. They now only offer an 11-night trip. It still has the Terra Cotta Warriors (yay!). They dropped Hong Kong Disneyland in favor of staying in town and exploring the history of Hong Kong. Works for us.

Yay... More DISers! We're staying a few extra days in Hong Kong so I may end up going to Disneyland anyway. My parents want to go to Macau too.

We booked the ABD China trip for mid-July - also thanks to Kevin! We'll be staying an extra day to visit HKDisney.

Sure will! If we get any kind of internet connection and it's uncensored, I'll try to post some stuff while we're there.

Will you stay at one of the HK Disney hotels? I've stayed at the Hollywood hotel before ... Loved it.

I'm attempting to fill out the Visa application form right now. It is ... ummm... interesting. I don't really understand some of the English instructions. The instructions that came with it just repeat what's on the form ... which aren't clear in the first place!

The visa application is confusing. If you have any specific questions, I might be able to help. There is an office in downtown Toronto if you drop it off they will let you know if there is anything not filled out properly. Just like the passport office.

We're just going to stay an extra night at the last ABD hotel and taxi over to HKD for the day. Hmmm... Can't wait to see the visa app
