I am looking at going to China with ABD. I see that they have their summer 2024 dates posted, however, they don't have any 2025 dates. For those who are familiar with ABD, does this mean they won't go to China in 2025 or will they release the 2025 dates at a later time because I see that there are other ABD trips in the summer of 2025. Thank you for any insight!

The ABD Land trips, as @jimmymc said, are normally announced in May of the prior year. There are some trips where dates in early 2025 (Jan/Feb/Mar) were considered part of the 2024 season so were announced last year.

The River Cruises and the Expedition cruises (Small Ship Adventures) are announced in January of the prior year.

Looking at the ABD website, what you are seeing for Summer 2025 are River cruises, Expedition cruises and Escapes (which are generally scheduled around these small ship cruises or DCL cruises). They are scheduled much farther in advance than the Land trips.

China is a Land trip, so you should see those trips for 2025 in May of 2024.

For those of you doing China. Will you get a separate phone service? We typically don't, but am unsure the steps to be sure personal information isn't compromised on China trips?

I got a VPN. And didn't really make any actual phone calls (mostly texting, messaging, etc.) As far as I know, everything was OK while I was in China. It also allowed me to access some websites and apps that aren't available on China's networks.

When I travel, I always use Travelpass (Verizon) as my international calling plan. For me, it’s not worth it to get a SIM card for the country I’m in because then my family would have to pay for an international call vs a local call to check on me. I’ve never had a problem.

When I did the China ABD before Covid, I also got a VPN so that I could access websites (email mainly) that I had read would be blocked. When I made calls home, I made sure I didn’t mention anything that could be controversial (making statements against the government, criticizing policies, etc.) in case someone was listening in. During my trip, I just assumed I was being monitored just like everyone else was. It didn’t change anything I did, but I made sure I was as informed as I could be about what to expect.

Hi, do you think this itinerary for China would be cool for a 7-year-old, almost 8? Or too much?
Honestly, it really depends on your 7-year-old. When I did the China trip, we had brothers on the trip who were 8 and 9. A lot of it was too much for them. They fell asleep at dinner more than once, had trouble finding food they wanted to eat (they ate a LOT of rice) and spent much of the trip playing games on their phones. It may have just been them, or their parents, but they just seemed to be overwhelmed at times. There *were* times they enjoyed, but it was a mixed bag.

On the other hand, there were multiple teens, and they really seemed to enjoy it.

Too much for a 7 year old, wait until at least 10-12

Or better yet, wait until teenager.

We are looking at doing this ABD in 2026. I know the schedule will not be released until May of 2025 but does anyone know if the season pretty much runs the same as the one for 2025? We would love to go as early in the season as possible and that looks like May for 2025. Thank you!

As far as I know, the season for China is pretty much the same from year to year.

I did the China ABD in 2019. In looking at the current 2024 itinerary, it is pretty similar to what we did. The 2025 itinerary seems to change the order in which things are done, some of the hotels, and extra time in Xi’an, but everything else seems to be pretty much the same. ABD will make adjustments based on customer feedback and other information. As long as you’re flexible and they’re visiting all the sites you want to see, you’re ok. For example, my trip never made it to Guilin due to heavy rain and flooding in the city on the day we were to fly out. They weren’t doing the river cruises due to it and those groups who were already there couldn’t leave due to the airport being closed. Fortunately, we were able to experience this from the comfort of a restaurant in Xi’an while ABD figured out the plan B. Plan B wound up being visiting/biking the walled city and seeing some other sites in Xi’an which we never would have seen if we hadn’t been able to go to Guilin. I wonder if that’s why they’re doing Guilin on day 2 and taking the train in 2025.

Thank you!!!! This is great info! 😍

ABD can and does make changes in the order/plans even after booking opens. The order in which we visited cities in China changed only several months before our departure, and several of the smaller things listed in the itinerary were just cut out with no mention. This can feel off-putting if you like to know your schedule and plan, but post trip I really didn't end up caring to much that those things were skipped. It wasn't anything major. I think the best way to go into the ABD China trip is with the knowledge that the big stuff (Great Wall, Pandas, Terracotta warriors etc) will be hit unless there is a major disruption, but what type of restaurant you eat at, or what type of guide you get at a specific site, might change. The 2025 itinerary gets rid of the 2 flights in 1 day, which in my opinion is a good thing. That day is just a lot, and wears you out for the rest of the trip.

I hadn't noticed that Chengdu is gone in the 2025 version, and you spend more time in Xi'an, doing the Qunling Giant Panda Research Center in Xi'an instead of the one in Chengdu. That definitely *is* an improvement in the scheduling. It's still a lot of internal flights, but one less than before, and not that 2-flight day.

Agreed. You do miss out on the face changing opera in Chengdu as well, but I think the addition of activities in Xi'an will make up for it when you add in the fact that you don't have a 4am-12am day for that 2 flights day in the previous ABD itinerary.

Thank you all so much for your insight!! Please keep it coming… this will be our family’s first trip to Asia so any and all tips are very much appreciated. ❤️

Exactly. While I really, really loved the face-changing opera, I would love not having to do that death march day in order to see the terracotta soldiers way more! (Which was worth it in the end, but still a hellish day!)

For those who have done the China ABD trip did Disney supply any type of fastpass option for Hong Kong and Shanghai Disney? It doesn't look like we spend a lot of time there and want to make sure we can ride most of the rides.
