Hi, my son went to his friends house, and the father uses a chin-up bar - let my son try it and he loves it..wants to work out.with one. He is 9 1/2 years old and i'm sure he'll stop using it like all toys but just wondering if your kid has one? do you think he's too young?

We got my son one when he was 14 I think. He is almost 17 now. We got him one of the kind that mount to the door jam. He used it quite a bit for a year or so but since he has weight training in high school he doesn't use it as much. I wouldn't think 9 1/2 is to young and it encourages physical activity so I am all for it. My 10 year old has started using it some.

and has had his for quite awhile. He loves it and uses it almost every time he goes in/out of his room.

But he is a gymnast, and hangs/swings from everything..

The only thing to be careful of is the adults. Ours is on my son's door, and my head just clears it, but my DH has to duck to get under it. Once it was dark and he forgot. He hit his head so hard he fell on his a** and I thought for sure we would be calling the ambulance.

Great, think i'll grant him his wish and get it for Hanukkah for him...are they all the same or is any brand/type better than another?

thanks

This made me laugh only because I have done the same thing myself. My wife really doesn't have to worry about it though as she is 4'11"

Can you still close/lock the door?
Thanks!

Yes you can.

i just went to Modell's they had the bar that you adhere to the door moldings, but they had one that does not mount (like the new gold gym one's) originally 34.99 on sale for 9.99! I figure this way he can only use it supervised since he's only 9 1/2 and the guy said its a good one, you can use it on the floor for sit-ups and push-ups as well! He said it is very secure!

That sounds perfect - what was the brand and name of it? The ones I see on their website all look like they mount. Thank you!

Oh my gosh, I totally forgot about these things! Everyone seemed to get one for Xmas the year I turned 9, and I swear in every household they doubled as a place to hang clothes while doing laundry :rotfl: Of course then, they were always the ones you tightened into the doorways (non-permanent) similar to a shower curtain rod, with the rubber stoppers on the end.

Yeah, though, word of warning on those kinds. Again I was 9, so had that not-understanding-engineering mentality. Our upstairs neighbor had one and I thought it would be fun to hang upside down on it. Aaaaand, yeah, it fell. I remember lying there gaping like a fish because I'd knocked all the air out of me (lucky I didn't land on my head!). My mom, downstairs, said the boom overhead rattled the dishes in the cabinets. For the record, my friend's mom was just 10 feet away in the living room, but you know how fast kids can get into trouble :rolleyes1 So that being said, I'd be very specific in saying, "no hanging upside down!" LOL!

Multi Bar Bolliner...it might just be in stores and not on-line!

but search chin-up bars and it looks just like the more expensive ones w/black grips!

and also its not like a shower rod w/suction cups, it goes over the door and also goes through the door for more support!
