So my DS turns 5 on Monday, May 16th. We are set to depart Tuesday, June 7th, which is exactly three weeks and a day from when he is eligible to get the vaccine. I am fine with getting him the vaccine on his birthday so that he can get the second dose in time. Although it is cutting it close as we are actually leaving the afternoon of Monday, June 6th to get in a night ahead of the cruise leaving. Does anyone think this will pose a problem? If he can't get his second dose till the day before we leave will he have to test....Will I still be able to update vaccination status less than 24 hours before we leave port?

I think there’s a 5 week grace period, so if he’s younger than 5 years and 5 weeks on embarkation day he doesn’t have to be vaccinated, but will need a PCR test and, depending on how long your sailing is, may need a test prior to disembarking. Definitely double check with DCL, though.

Thank you. I tried to call today but the call won't go through.

Honestly, I wouldn’t waste time on calling just yet, because things could change (hopefully for the better) by your cruise. I’d just read what current guidelines are on DCL site and plan on at least that for now. As you approach mid May I’d it’s not clear give them a ring for further clarification. You want to avoid having to call more than once!

This. I know a few people in this situation who sailed and this is what they were told.

I have the same issue about our upcoming September cruise. DD turns 5, two weeks before sail date. I had started a thread on it.

Based on dis member responses, it seems grace period was intended for those that had cruises very close to when the requirements changed for 5 and up vaccinations. Since I've known about the new requirements for months, its up to us to reschedule or cancel, not rely on an exception. However, I have not been able to find any "official" word about grace periods. OP, will be following to see how things work out for your upcoming cruise.

To my knowledge, the "grace period" remains in effect. Children with a birthday less than 5 weeks prior to the sail date must follow the younger "unvaccinated" passenger rules. Right now that means pre-arrival testing 24 hours up to 3days, embarkation testing, masks required at the Club/Lab, and masks at the Walt Disney Theater (required of all passengers). Rules may change by the time of your cruise so just keep watching the info.

Miraculously I was able to get an email response from customer service about the 5 week grace period currently in effect. I received this reply Mar 14, 2022.

Here is the email information:

"Thank you for choosing a Disney Cruise Line vacation!

I would be happy to assist you.

All Guests (US and international) ages 5 and older are required to be fully vaccinated against covid-19 for sailings beginning on or after January 13, 2022.
proof of vaccination will be required for all vaccine-eligible Guests (U.S. and international) ages 5 and older.

*Guests who turn 5 years old within 5 weeks of embarkation are permitted to sail with proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test.

*Guests 4 years of age and younger must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test (paid for at the Guest’s expense) taken between 3 days and 24 hours prior to the sail date.

The test should be a NAAT test, rapid PCR test or lab-based PCR test. Rapid antigen tests are not accepted. Disney Cruise Line has secured a special rate of $98.33 per PCR test (which includes a 3.5% processing fee) through our third-party vendor, Inspire Diagnostics. Guests may also obtain their test from any independent testing supplier.

Also, due to recently updated technical guidance from the CDC, all Guests, regardless of age and vaccination status, are required to take a COVID-19 test, paid for by Disney Cruise Line, administered by Inspire Diagnostics at the terminal before boarding.

I hope this information has been helpful. If you require further assistance with any other inquiries, please feel free to contact us.

We look forward to sailing with you!

Have a Magical Day!
