For our trip in May our dd will be 11 and therefore is classified as a adult by Disney. As dd has such a small appetite she could pass as a 9 year old, however with regard to the buffets such as Boma or Crystal Palace, will we have to pay adult price for the buffet or can we choose to pay for child buffet?

Also does anyone know if the $4 surcharge for buffets at ceratin times of the year also apply to the child price?

Rob

Hi Rob, with Buffets it totally goes on age at majority of them, been to the odd one that went on height.
We have never been in that position having a son way advanced for his age we were other way, worried when he was 8 looking like he was 12. Now he is 14 and almost 6' 2" he gets asked on the plane if he wants wine with his meal.
I guess its upto you if you want to try pay child price, I know I would not want to pay full if my child ate small amouts.

I believe the $4 is on all ages, but someone else might confirm.

We are in the same situation with our DD when we go this Feb. She is 11 but doesn't have a huge appetite also she is a very fussy eatter so will really only eat the items from the childrens menu.

I think it seems that we just have to swallow the adult cost for buffet meals but she can choose from the childrens menu in other restaurants.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong :confused3

Rob,
It's $4 for adult and $2 for children on top of already quoted prices in holiday times-Easter,Thanksgiving etc...

I believe it's grin+bear it-as in paying for adult,i am in a similar situation when we go-Dd7+Dd3 eat like sparrows and would love for them to share a meal at certain sitdown places-1,because it saves some money+2,it saves on an awful lot of waste(which i hate). They share meals here in Frankie+Benny's,Outback etc..,but i believe they may not allow it over there(i know they won't at buffet's).x.

Don't think you would have much problem at sit down meals Michelle. Americans are more into sharing meals than we are.

Really :confused3 ,i honestly thought it was frowned upon asking for one meal between 2 children.I hope this is the case-i absolutley hate wasting food Wayne, even i have a childs counter service meal in the parks.x.

We always share starter and dessert if we have one, without exception they always bring 3 plates and 3 forks or spoons.
There is no rule anywhere that says you have to order a meal for every person, its only buffets where you have to pay for everyone.

Don't know where you will be eating but some places, if you are not a big eater, the portions are big enough for 2, for example the fish and chips at Orlando Ale house was massive when DMIL had it 2 years ago, 8 pieces of fish, chips, coleslaw and Hush puppies, DMIL is in her 70's and tiny, it would have fed her for a week for $7.95.

We once had the Chicken Nahoes there, had them layered with cheese, the server would not take entree orders until we had eaten nachoes, we couldn't eat them, no way could we eat another thing. $11.99 for a meal for 3. Pics below of before and after 3 hungry people ate.

youngest DS was 12 during our last visit, an incredibly fussy eater, and struggles to eat a childs portion - we did however pay adult price at the couple of buffets that we did, but sit down meals were different. I always asked if I could order from the childs menu for him as he would not eat anything from the adults menu, but always added I understand that he is older and would pay anything extra if needed - but was never charged! Because of this I did not worry about the extra paid for the buffet - Eldest DS certainly eats more than his share has the appetite of a horse and a 29" waist! (so if you are going to a buffet get there before he does, he's not greedy - always eats everything he takes but just has an incredible appetite)

You will have to and should pay the adult price, after all if your child was 8 but eat like a horse you would not offer to pay the adult price.

I dont agree Andy.

I have an 11 year old who hardly eats anything so orders from the childs menu. and a 9 year old who eats like a horse and eats from the adult menu.

The restaurant will not be out of pocket for a sit down menu as the 11 year old can only eat what is in front of him.. he doesn't get extra just the same as a 4 year old. Therefore he should pay the same.

The OP was talking about buffets!

Their Restaurant their Rules.

I think that this is what we will do if we do when we go at Easter :)

At some buffets e.g. Crystal Palace, the options on the buffet included some specifc choices for children and if memory serves correct (and as I have had a birthday since the last trip, it might not do!) the childrens options were in a seperate area of the buffet. On the other have Boma did not have childrens options but I think Chef Mickeys do :confused3

Ps sorry if there is confusion in the OP, the question was about what options are available re payment/choice of buffet, rather than 'what I could get away with'.

If you mean children's 'favourites' such as chicken strips etc. then yes they are at buffets but not exclusively for children and so price per person is still based on age.
