My son's 6th birthday coincides with our (surprise) trip to Disney. The poor guy will spend the entire day of his birthday in our car on the way down (and most of the next day too).

But :charac2: at least he'll be on his way to WDW. :goodvibes

I had never heard of Pirates and Pals Pirate Cruise, thought it sounded like a perfect arrival night birthday celebration, and naively thought that I could easily book it at 3 months out. Wrong.

So, my questions are:

(1) What are the chances that there will be a cancellation on Pirates and Pals and we can actually cruise?

(2) Assuming Pirates and Pals remains full, what are some other fun options for boys' birthdays at Disney? It won't be a park day for us. I thought of T-REX for dinner, but he's not super into dinosaurs. I'd love to order him a cake that can be delivered to our table.

Thanks for your help!

There is also a pirate cruise that is available at the Grand Floridian and (I think) Caribbean beach resort. Other thoughts for a little boy birthday is doing pirates league at Magic Kingdom. Basically, dress up like a pirate and learn how to be a pirate (I think?). You could also arrange for a birthday cake at any wdw restaurant. If he is really into water, the coral reef restaurant might be a good option. It has a very large aquarium.

I would also keep checking in the hopes of a cancellation. Because people change plans all the time!

I assume you are looking for outside the parks, correct? Our boys like Rain Forrest Cafe at that age. There is one at DTD and the one at AK can be entered without a park pass. At DTD, there is a VERY cool Lego store that my DS7 loves loves loves. There is also Fort Wilderness, a pretty fun place for boys to enjoy. The HDDR is great, and the Trails End Buffet is great as well. If you arrive not too late in the day, remember it cost very little more to add on a park day to a multi-day pass and that opens up a ton more choices.

My son chose to spend his birthday at DTD. We ate at Earl of Sandwich and played for a long time at the Lego store.

I also ordered a cake from the food court (we were at POFQ but any food court should have them - I ordered a day in advance just in case and I think they did have to defrost it before I picked it up). It was plain, but they gave us candles and I got some ice cream and he was happy. We ate that in our room.

you could always just go to the Contemporary for dinner & cake and then watch the fireworks from there too.

What kind of things does he like? I'd base it on his interests. Maybe dinner at Chef Mickeys and then watch Wishes from the observation deck (4th floor), maybe the musical revue at Fort Wilderness with a pony ride to follow, maybe Lego store in DTD followed by T-Rex.

Thanks everyone for your helpful suggestions! I am chasing the ever-elusive Chef Mickey's dinner reservation that night. We'll see! I love the idea of having cake there and catching the fireworks. :good vibes

*Still irrationally hoping someone cancels their Pirates and Pals reservation for that night. :lmao:
